Help! Engine idling WAY too fast

I'd be looking for vacuum leaks around the carb and intake. Choke could be sticking too.

whooo! got it fixed. all it was was that the cruise control throttle arm was caught pulling the throttle. its runnin good and purs like a kitten. glad i did this project

What did you put in place of the EGR valve? A proper plate and gasket I hope?

Only time I ever get rid of an EGR valve is when they fail. If they work fine, I just leave them be.

Only time I ever get rid of an EGR valve is when they fail. If they work fine, I just leave them be.

No no all the egr stuff is intact! I am considering removing it but for now it stays

If you ever do remove it, do it right, and get a distributor from an earlier truck without EGR, and set it to the timing specs from that truck.

what would happen if i left the current distributor on? but i my next prpject will hopefully be a vortec swap/new cam. i guess i can remove the egr and get a new distributor then. but im good on engine mods for now

older dist timing curve will be set up for non egr.
If you keep egr, you can run more timing on 87 gas.
