If that's a press fit rod end/pin probably a non-issue since the pin would not spin.

Yeah, press fit pin. But, the pin had slid over and was gouging the cylinder wall, until it finally slid far enough and the piston was able to rock. It then broke the piston. Luckily, I quit running it before the piston broke completely free of the rod.

I installed a forged piston and pressed in a new pin. The new piston came with spiral locks, so I installed those too.

He will not come out and say it directly, but I've suspected all along that is likely exactly why he will not do anything with it.

I'd agree with him completely.

I'm perfectly fine with half-assing some of my own stuff, but if I had a company name associated with it then nope, I wouldn't take that chance.

Those were my thoughts and posts on day 1. Put a big sert in it and motor on or make an insert as needed. But I would bet the machine shop doesn't want to chance the liability or the word of mouth on that deal.
That's the area I'm talking about. Simply not worth the time, money and effort to do a new coil, have the block decked, and still have a block with a coil in that spot. I'm sure it can be reused by someone, but the machine shop I use will not touch it and it's cheaper for me just to start with a new block.
As long as it wasn't cracked my shop would have just done the work but then again, I had been dealing with him for over 20 years before he retired as far as how he would deal with it if that weren't me, I don't know. I'd still hang onto it you never know it may be needed in a bind.

If just a daily not driven hard I'd do the same I have a hard time just tossing stuff If it can serve a purpose heck, I've had a 302-roller long block sitting for like 6+ years wrapped in plastic and slathered in grease and oil just in case I end up with a project for it or a buddy needs it for something.

Lol, no it's definitely not driven easy when I'm driving it. It sees a lot of full throttle, higher rpm, 4wd launches, drifting and burnouts. The last owner built it to use it and I'm just continuing the tradition. Amazingly, it does not smoke or have any noticeable blow-by.

Now when my wife drives it though, she just puts around with it.

Way back in the late '80s at the local 3/8 mile oval track was where I saw my first 377 in action. It dominated for a short while in the season, until everyone else had one or went even bigger with after market cranks.
