Much to my wife’s disgust, my 81 GMC is in dry dock for some much needed maintenance/upgrades. Besides the boring things like fixing the inside door handle, squealing worn out belts and hoses, and burned out instrument lamps, I have decided to “store” some of the extra parts I have accumulated permanently under the hood. Things like a brand new set of Hooker headers, aluminum performer intake, roller rockers, MSD ignition, 8 quart Milodon oil pan, etc.
Btw, 1-7/8 inch Hooker headers for a 64-77 Olds A body fit a 455 powered squarebody PERFECTLY. Not one dent or modification needed. I figured with as much room as there is under the hood of these trucks, i figured it would work. I was anticipating some minor hassles, but im pleasantly surprised they fit as well as they did.
In keeping with the Olds theme, it like to combine the squarebody outside air induction with Oldsmobiles version. I have an air cleaner and hose setup from a 85ish truck, using the factory grill opening on the passenger side. I noticed today there is an identical opening on the drivers side. My brainstorm idea is to use another stock air cleaner, carefully cut the snorkel out and weld it to my existing air cleaner and use another grill opening adapter.
So, my question: what engine used the passenger side grill opening? Does anyone in readerland have a junk air cleaner housing (but good snorkel) grille opening adapter and fresh air hose?
This is the factory 68-69 Olds OAI setup. This is the look I’m going for.
