I've got my old K&N filter sitting in a box.....It came with the truck, and I've switched out to an Edelbrock paper element air cleaner.....Don't know if it's something you would be interested in or not..........:)

Thats a perdy motor. I notice you got the right aftermarket bracket for your throttle and trans linkage. You know that is one of the biggest killers of 700r4 transmissions in squarebodies? People will switch out to and Eddy carb, or Eddy intake and carb, not have the right linkage geometry for the throttle linkage and can not only get full throllte, but they trash the transmisison by not having the TV cable hooked up and/or not adjusted properly. Usually within 10-30 days the trans is trash depending on how far and how they drive it.

So what's up with the K&N? How come you switched away from it? I have not run with one yet, but been thinking about it. I think the biggest problem I have seen on other trucks, is people clean them, then over oil them and air can't get through them. Yep, I sure might be interested in it.

dangit, why didn't you say that before I bought a cheap mr. gasket paper deal for my 88. I been looking for an open element for it and k&n was too high so I got the cheap paper one. But why in the world would you switch from that good flowing setup to paper? not to mention you have to toss it out and that one you can clean and reuse?

The last time I got a carb from autojunk it was only $250 for a reman. deal 600cfm holley or eddy. I'd take the part number from summit and put it in their site and see how much it is. They had them in stock at my local autojunk. oh I mean zone lol or autobone.

AutoZone does have good Duralast batteries though made by Johnson Controls. And I do buy oil there since they sell it below cost as a leader to get you in the door. I hate the suggestive selling that goes on at AutoZone and I buy very little there, but some of the name brand stuff is cheaper there and I'll buy it. Also I use their rewards program, and I have gotten about $30 worth of Free merchandise in the last 3 months. One was a buy $20 and get $20 in rewards credit, so I jumped on it, and bought 2 of the oil sale specials, 5 qts of oil and filter for $13.99. That was for my moms car. I use Mobil 1 filters and O Reily's brand Full Synthetic Oil. They had a sale of 5 qts and the Mobil 1 filter for $17.99, Limit 2, so I stopped in on the way to work, and the way back for 3 days and got 12 sets of that. The Mobil 1 Filter alone is usually $10-$12, so with a good Mobil 1 filter, and Full Synthetic Oil, I have not problem going 10,000 miles between oil changes. Of course I go 5000 miles on a cheap ass Fram filter and conventional oil too. People are crazy who change their oil every 3000. Not even necessary. I feel it already, here come the darts, eggs and tomatoes. :hidesbehindsofa:

Just never been a fan of them....My SS had one installed from the previous owner, and it kept messing with my MAF....I cleaned and oiled it to specs, and still had problems on the SS so it was replaced...

This one was on the '87 when I bought it, and I took it off a few weeks back and replaced it with a paper filter setup. Never had any issues when it was on the truck........I know some people love them, but I just don't like 'em....

Yeah K&N oil is hell on sensors, and an open element like that doesnt like the rain one bit.

I'll agree they are not good on computer controlled vechiles at all. That's why I never used one before. My SIL lost ass loads of gas mileage putting one in his truck and finaly, FINALLY, I got him convinced to take it out and he did and milegae increaded dramatically. Now he beleives me. How much you want for that one with shipping to 73160? I'll use it on my 454 with the Quadrajet and see if I can get a little better mpg with it if not I'll try no this 350 crate more 4x4 which is where I should really use it to trap the dust and dirt. Both are non computer controlled.

I change my oil twice a year. We just don't drive enough to justify changing it sooner but I do drive enough to keep sludge from forming. My engines are so clean, you could eat off the insides. I also run half a quart of ATF at each change, the detergents in ATF help keep it clean.

In both of mine: 1995 3.8 V6 and 1991 4.3 V6, the emissions tests have lower numbers than some newer cars I've worked on.

My former neighbor was asking me why i would drive an older car that was "harder on the environment" (they were sweet, but a couple of tree hugging lesbians) and I asked to see the last emission results on their cars - 2004 Kia, 2006 VW - and mine had better numbers! Needless to say, they never brought it up again.

Or see if Swim is interested in it first. I can always find deals around here. Even on sealed beam headlights.

DAMNIT@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I paid more then that for a cheap paper type one.

You can have er bro I done bought mine, might as well use it.

As for open elements in the rain, no way lol ours works perfectly in the rain or snow. Only time we had one not work so good was when an upper hose blew off the water neck, it didn't like that too good.

To be far though mine was top and bottom plates, wing nut and stud, gasket and paper filter but it still cost me $22 and was free shipping only cause I bought other stuff to make it that way.

next level, it aint your fault man that's just how my luck usually is, I buy something then find it cheaper or closer soon after. That and when I buy something online it seems the price goes up after I buy it. I bought my chrome center bolts valve covers from the same place at the same time as the said air cleaner, got them in last wed. and checked later that week or so and the price has raised almost $10 on the same part no. valve covers. Did the same thing when I bought my cragar ss's along time ago, they were like $109 or $119 a piece when I bought em, a week later they was almost $10-20 higher.

If it works out Swim can live without it, I can sure wait til February and meet you at one of the Casinos. Which ones do you go to? I am about 15-20 minutes from either Riverwind in Norman off Hwy 9 and I-35, or also in the other direction to the Chickasaw Nation casino in NewCastle. Also a few on the way to my dads too, like Firelake in Shawnee. If you don't go near any of them, then shipping is fine too. I usually have some extra parts too if there is something you need for your truck that I have and not going to use. About all I have a shortage of is motor parts. But if you need something do let me know fairly quick so I can pull it, cuz I hope to be scrapping a truck in the next week or 2 and I'd sure hate to scrap what you could have used especially if you were going to be here and could have picked it up.

You sure you don't want that filter Swim? I'll sure take if you can live without it, cuz I know I prefer not to use that traingle thing and 2 of my trucks are using the OEM cleaners right now. I'm thinking that K&N will be ideal for my K1500 out in the OK dusty lands, but I come across deals all the time, kinda like these Edelbrock parts. So if you're overdue for a break or a good deal on something feel free to jump on it.

At least on your online deals they wait til after you buy before they jump in price. Usually the other way around for me. I buy it, tell a buddy about it, he goes to get it, and its cheaper. Pisses me the hell off too.

yea I'm good man. I aint even put mine on yet, been too cold. it's got the old stock crap on it now, pass. side fender tube and box all that crap. I already removed a/c and this should really free it up and clean it up underhood. I may have to reuse my stock tbi ring though, hate that thing but the one I got is a drop base, didn't know until I bought it. I was just gonna wait til ater on and buy a reusable element to put in the assembly I just bought.
