I was wondering about this. There's a guy from Southwest carburetor going to be near my work on Saturday to do some adjustments. Thanks for the info.
To be specific, the high idle and mashing the pedal to make it stop part.

But it could also cause low power since the choke is closing at least partially. But if it's not downshifting on its own under heavy throttle that's a transmission issue, most likely the kickdown circuit.

Possible. I did a fluid and filter change this past Tuesday and it's shifting smooth as glas. It's almost like the throttle is sticking as it does it when I drive slow before I get up some speed. I've Kroiled the linkage and the cable. Truck did sit for over a year so carb may be gummed up

Shifting is different than a passing downshift. Does the transmission downshift on its own when stomping on the throttle?

"throttle sticking" i guarantee its choke adjustment or sticky choke linkages. You can quick stomp the pedal and it comes back to idle?

Do you have electric or manual choke?
