Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

The only way I am going to run a factory style mechanical pump is if I can determine exactly how worn the cam lobe is, and get a longer than stock fuel pump rod.
I don't want to hear that clicking/clacking noise coming from under the hood.
Plus that noise indicates accelerated wear because of the lash.
I will try the bypass style fuel filter, going to try gas without ethanol, and see how the truck performs.
If everything I try fails, I will set up a pump for water, and have a spray nozzle aimed at the electric pump and keep that sucker wet all the time so it runs cooler.

Also, I am not happy with the factory in Mexico that made the engine, they did not drill and tap the hole in the block to use a 3/8-16 bolt to hold the pump rod in place while replacing the fuel pump.
If the block ever sees a machine shop, I will have them drill and helicoil it for a bolt.

Part of the reasons why I switched to an electric pump is the hidden switch I installed under the dash, I can have power to the pump when there's oil pressure, power manually to prime the carburetor or pump gas out of a tank, or off position where the pump gets no power, so if anybody tries to drive off with my truck, they won't get out of the parking lot.

How are the fuel lines routed if the pump is behind the tank selector switch but in front of the two tanks? Are there 2 pumps?[/QUOTE]

The pump is to the rear of the selector solenoid on the frame, and I put longer fuel hoses from the pump to the solenoid.

I have been thinking on this one since I first read it.

The question I came up with is:
Why is the exhaust so hot?

What shape is your muffler in?
Could it be rusted inside with a loose piece of metal causing unruly back pressure and with that extra heat?

Or perhaps it just does not flow enough for the engine.
There are many mufflers out there that neck down inside the muffler case.

Just thoughts...

When I bought my truck the electric pump was here behind the cab. It loops back to this location from the output of the selector valve then up to the carb. Maybe this is what he means.

It did, but it was only a temporary fix until I found the correct mechanical pump. I did not drive the truck very much as I was in the build process when it looked like this, but I did not have any issues though. Probably the only thing to add would be some type of rollover/crash switch.

Never thought of a crash switch, duh. I'm sure that is how his is plumbed as well, just struggle to get descriptions into my hard head sometimes. Here I'm a volunteer fireman on a department that covers 30 miles of I 40 and never thought about a crash switch!! Kicking myself now!!!

Maybe its because I don't have dual tanks and am not familiar with the dual tank line routing.

The fuel pump is mounted to the frame towards the rear of the truck behind the solenoid.
Replaced the rubber fuel lines with longer pieces, but it isn't like it's a long distance more to pump fuel.

To answer the muffler question: they came from a motorhome I scrapped out, had a 440 Chrysler in it.
They have a nice sound to them, not obnoxiously loud, but more beefy than a stock quiet muffler, and they seem to flow good.

Good thought. You might be onto something.

Is there a Cat? It maybe plugged ? Just building (originally it auto corrected this to ranching???) off what he said.

No cat, and the mufflers are behind the fuel pump and solenoid.

But are they all rotted or broken internally where a baffle could be blocking the outlet!

If that's the problem, it's going to be expensive to troubleshoot and fix.
