And you're positive these are 3.08 or 3.07 as you call them ratio? Usually is into the 80's before we seen lots of 3.08's. Before then 3.73 was pretty common.

My '77 has 3.08's and I had a parts axle from a '78 that was 3.08 gears.

The factory literature show 3.07s were the ratio in 1978. My interchange manual shows 3.08s available, but my axle code list show 3.07s as well.

I think it is 3.0795 or something that gets rounded up to 3.08. I think the main question is, is he sure they are 3.73s. Not saying the guy cant count, but it can be tricky. Someone could have changed them somewhere along the line.

3.07 or 3.08 wasn't the issue. I didn't think 3.07/3.08 was all that common yet by 78 and just wanted to be sure he really had 3.07's and not something cool like 3.42 or 3.73 that would be much easier to sell. 3.07/3.08's are a hard slow sale in most cases. But, it only takes 1 buyer. Also, the axles are good for parts. Carriers, axle shafts, housing, backing plates etc. 12 bolts will usually sell though, cuz so many with 82 and up trucks think the 12 bolt is so much stronger than the 10. On GMSB, we're all pretty much educated about that so hopefully PO has them posted on CL too where he has a much better chance of getting them sold. Not only for that reason, but for the fact, freight costs pretty much kill a deal.

Well, he should post up the axle code at least we'd know what they were/are...

Yep, that would help too. Of course things can have changed too, like that one code I gave you and it comes back as a 4.10 and the gears are clearly marked and are 3.73. They are also GM OEM gears, so it must have been done by a dealership. I can't imagine someone buying gears at the stealership.

FWIW, the axles are probably easier to sell separate. The front is good for spare parts or somebody wanting to simply replace their blown up axle, while the rear is good for a 2wd daily driver type truck (5-lug shafts and drums swap right in).

I meant to and forgot to mention that too. PO needs to be willing to seperate them. If they were 3.73 or 4.10, I'd say a K10 owner with 3.08's would buy them for a cheap gear change, but being they are 3.08's, I say much better luck splitting them up.
