Wait, you have a 4 speed and want to go to Automatic? Or you have Auto and want to go 4speed? Title says, 4 speed to Auto, so Pops or I have misunderstood.

Also, NV3500 is a 5 speed, not 4.

Go figure, if he was any closer, I could hook him right up. I've got auto and want to go SM465. We could get together and swap our stuff. :waytogo:

But, I think I'm going to punt the manual trans deal. Automatics are just to dang cheap, can be built to be reliable, just not as durable as I'd like, but they are cheap enough, if I break a few, so what, still cheaper in the long run and parts are all over the damn place.

yea i have a sm465 in it currently. but its horrible having no o.d on the highway. so i want either an automatic with o.d or a 5 speed with o.d. i can get everything to convert it either way. just curious which is a harder, longer more expensive project

If you're looking for the least expensive way out, 700r4 is the cheapest way out, and it must be properly built, and maybe you can find one already built in good shape, if you want very durable, NV4500 5 speed manual is the way to go, but it's quite pricey to go that route, even thought you are already set up for manual. The trans itself will be expensive and so will the adapter if it's 4x4.

I have a new process 883..its a 3 speed with OD. Basically a manually shifted 700r4. Check around local yards to see if you can find one. The Rpo code is my6. Its a side cover trans with reverse to the left and up. Just another option!

WTH? Never heard of it. So it's first gear, a 1 to 1 2nd gear and an OD gear? WTF? And no clutch? Sounds like a powerglide with a gear vendor on the back of it. That's to funny.

You are very lucky to have that, those things are rare as hen's teeth. I would LOVE to have that setup. Is it a mechanical clutch linkage or hydraulic? Do you know if it uses the standard type bell housing, like an SM465?

It's just a basic 4 speed tranny, but it has an OD rather than a low range. From what I remember, it's a derivative of some Mopar tranny.

I say its a manually shifted 700r4 because the gear ratios are pretty much the same. Same trans that mopar used behind their hemis way back when. It was an option in 81-87 1/2 tons!
