Are you wondering about fuel mileage on your truck?

You can buy an adapter to put a 2bbl on a 4bbl manifold. Easy swap. Then send me your 4bbl lol jk

On the bright side, it would probably fix your gas mileage, because you wouldn't want to drive it that way LOL Weren't the later Quadrajets set up to run on two barrels most of the time anyway?

According to what i read online a quadrajet like the one in my 85 will get beter mileage than a 2 barrel as long as you drive it easy and keep from opening the secondaries. I also read its a 750 cfm if the demand is there, it meters depending on the need for fuel. Do a google search and check it out.

I dunno, I think people rely too much on internet CFM calculators now-a-days. Sure, a 600 will work good on a stock 454, and probly increase the throttle response, but it should love a 750 as well. I really think a 2bbl would limit rpm.

FWIW- Irishman is right, Q jets are 750cfm(800cfm one could be found on some bigger engines like my Cadillac) so GM must have thought 750 was about right lol Thing with a Q jet is that the secondaries are vaccum op(on demand), so you can't hardly bog the engine with too much gas. With your Edelbrock(mech op) when you floor it it dumps all 750CFM worth of air & gas at once. If you don't have enough motor you get a bog.

A good condition Q jet thats off a 454(for tuning reasons) would be the best of all worlds, power+economy. I'm sure you can find someone who will trade you a nice Q jet for your Edelbrock.

This

Reason why the Qjet is my favorite carb.
They'll give you better economy over Holleys
and a properly tuned one can give you great performance

Thanks Manbearpig, i cant recall anyone else agreeing that a quadrajet is a good carb. If you pull one off and look at the baseplate you notice its a perfect setup, smaller secondaries for cruising and when you demand power it has HUGE secondaries. I drove my buddies truck with the 2 barrel on a 305 and mine seems to have alot better power just cruising around town.

I didnt like my Q-jet offroad, steep banks would dump the float bowl, load up and kill the engine. Sometimes that can be a really bad thing. I tried the bowl vent extended tube mod but still had drown-outs so went with the Edelbrock 600cfm 1406. Installed the offroad kit, tuned the primary needle-and seats, secondaries and accellerator pump and been running happy for many years. But this is on a 350, I've always heard 750 was for high-performance smallblocks and for bigblocks. I think Edelbrock also makes a vaccuum operated secondary carb.
