Truck is fixed. Hopefully. Heat is hot. Truck is not. Timing is set at 0° iac not replaced yet and idle bounces around from 650 to 750. I figure start jt a few times and let computer adjust to new timing before I change the iac.
Now that it can keep itself cool, might be worth driving it around a bit and give it a good italian tunup to make sure everything is all warmed up and blown out. If you come back from a good spirited drive and it still doesn't idle quite right, then swap out the IAC

It’s supposed to start storming really bad soon. I do plan on taking it for a test drive ASAP. And if that works out then I’m taking it to work next.

glad to hear that everything got worked out. regarding idle....I am not sure how steady it can be. my 350 TBI idles in about a +/- 50rpm (100rpm wide total band) also. I haven't been able to tighten it up, and the scanner doesn't show any apparent reasons for it. my vac is steady at about 19.5 inhg.

Drove the truck about 5-6 minutes doing 55 majority of the way and when I got to my destination the truck would hardly idle it almost stalled a few times but caught up each time before I finally shut it off

Drove the truck again it takes a bit to finally crank up when cold and idles around 1200. Idle was decent it smoothed out after a few seconds and drove home fine.

Sorry sorry. Been too excited to finally have my truck back. Also stormed real bad last night apparently there were tornadoes just north of here. I’ll get some pics tomorrow the only new pics I’ve got are of some wheels I’m trying to flip for some profit

Replaced water pump and lower rad hose. The radiator hose was definitely the culprit but it can’t hurt having a new water pump! Why are you feeling dissatisfied? Is there anything else I can do to help? That’s the plan with the wheels! Make a quick buck I got them for cheap cleaned them shined the tires and listed them for sale

That sounds great and all but how they got that thing idling now? :fishing1:

Hold on.
Are you telling us the freaking radiator hose is to blame, not the water pump? :ehcapt:
Right? Lol?
I guess it could happen.

How they got that thing idling now? :deal:

I reckon so, it’s doing the same thing it did when it got parked before I got it. It was lower rad hose then and the hose was doing same thing now. Replaced and boom fixed. Could’ve been water pump too but the lower hose was junk so replaced both. It idles a little low for my preference but I’ve only drove it 3 times since I got the timing set at 0, I have not installed the new iac yet as someone told me to wait and let it run some and see if the idle smoothed out. It does take what seems like forever to start up the first time for the day but after it’s warmed up it starts with a bump of the key. Any ideas? Not a huge deal because it’s never not started, just would be awesome if it always started up pretty quick

my 350 TBI always cranks a little longer on a cold start. usually 2 sec to fire on a cold start. I do turn the ign to run for a couple seconds before cranking to prime the fuel pump. it seems to help a little. when it has been run in the last few hours, it starts in less than a second regardless of priming the pump

I dont know how TBI works, but if it does "shoot" some gas in the throat of the tb on each key on, you could easily determine if cycling the kye 2-3 times then cranking helps it start. its not necessarily a bad thing for a injected vehicle to take a second, because the idea of emissions stuff is you dont want unecessary fuel sitting where it can evaporate since the injection and cranking will reliably start it each time.

I’m not 100% sure on the startup fuel spray subject. But I just drove the truck home after it sat for about two and a half hour and it ran like junk at idle it was shaking and stalled first time but started right back up but sounded almost canned the way idle was dropping to around 400 and back up. I rolled to a stop sign and the truck dropped to under 100 rpm( tach bottomed out) and service engine soon light came on but then it jumped back up to 650 - 700 and light went out. Could this be the iac? If it’s cold it idles like hell but other than that runs great now. I’m having to get used to shifting again since it doesn’t shoot upto 2kwhen I press clutch
