What have you done to your square lately??

Got the shop truck finished..... Got it out and washed it.... Smells all fancy inside... Going to take it to lunch.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160223/2e75862cbc14864123ac32db15f45bd3.jpg Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk

What have you done to your square lately??

Got the massive job done... Three and a half weekends. Tore apart the heater/a.c./vent and literally ended up completely removing everything including the instrument cluster. Holy crap... I wore a mask during teardown and clean up. Took a few days of positive ventilation to get the stink...

    First time engine rebuild

For 3k you can put a brand new crate motor in it. No fuss no muss. Its cheaper than a rebuild at your local Machine shop. Pull out the old and dunk in the new. If you don't have cash, put it on a card and make monthly payments. Cheaper than a new car and way more reliable. My .02 Sent...

    454 Blocks

Depends.... unless it's a new gen block, the 454/396 platform remains virtually the same. Peanut ports are for trucks, the made torque, Square ports were for Chevelles and Nova's. "Hi Perf" heads are pretty standard and most people will tell you they are rare,,,,, bull pucky. They are...

    64-67 327 210hp engine in 84 chevy c10 swb (project build)

I use Brad Penn.... Royal Purple or Joe Gibbs have Zinc additives you can mix with your oil. I use Brad Penn because I prefer to let the professional chemists do the mixing. Milkshake scare is what you have... it's either condensation or a head gasket/cracked water port somewhere. Oil and...

    64-67 327 210hp engine in 84 chevy c10 swb (project build)

I was hoping I wasn't the only one who thought it was a Chevy II block that's worth thousands to some poor guy who wants a numbers matching car.

    64-67 327 210hp engine in 84 chevy c10 swb (project build)

If you get past the milkshake scare, I would highly reccommend a high zinc oil for the exhaust valves. Unless you know for a fact it has hardened seats. Especially if you are making it a daily driver.

An excellent big bore, long rod, short stroke combination project.

    My 309 build....

Most odd numbered Chev builds are from the racing industry. This motor was designed when the 327 came out, they had a 310 cube limit on most dirt tracks. Some guys were lucky enough to run across the 302 motors. so, if you put: #3970010 4bm block at 4.045 bore #L1101 .085 Pop up pistons (060...

    My 309 build....

I know it's not a truck motor, but it is an old school type build. Who knows what a 309 is??? I'll hint at the crank number.... 1178

What have you done to your square lately??

Yes, Marhyde is a rust converter.... I use it because that's what I was taught to. Not because I know why. I've been mostly around race cars and rat rods. I'm not much into shiney. I get twitterpated around rusty stuff.... old guys beware.

What have you done to your square lately??

I use Marhyde (One Step) which is similar.... but it goes on clear and turns black if it touches rust. Never used POR 15

    steering reservoir leaking out top

Had this problem on a race car (SBC Pump).... turned out that the pulley was too small...... also had too big of a valve in it.

    Rusted exhaust studs

^^^^ True.... been to Canada shopping for Studs.... they got lots.... IMO Brass nuts and grade five bolts are the best.... but I use Donuts.... not to be confused with doughnuts.....:) As for pipes... if you are looking for torque; 2 into 1 magnaflow and 2 3/4 pipe in, 3 in out...

    New to squares..

Black Valve covers say GM 350 right??? It's possibly a "Target Master" and came as off the shelf replacements from the dealer. They were mostly the cream of the crop, "Hecho" blocks that are highly desirable. Better quality components and usually were in the 325 HP range depending on the year...
