Anyone used the old ash tray for something (else) that's interesting?

i added some switches for some LED lights i use for hunting and camping- very happy with how it turned out.

now i’m thinking about what i can do with the ash trays in the rear passenger seats…

My EFI has a tablet for tuning....might have to mod the ashtray to make it a tad wider to fit.....but thats the plan ATM.

Since this thread has been revived and the original 2013 pic died, I wanted to repost it for continuity. I should mention that nothing has been changed and I use it all the time.

good idea- might do USB ports or a 120 volt plug for my hidden power inverter (future project when it isn’t 110° outside).

somewhere online i saw an insert for the rear ashtrays that turn them into cup holders but i can’t find it now. will post here if/when i find that again.

I keep my retirement fund in my ash tray since it's been 14 years off cigarettes so far.

Thanks man. I went 31 years and retired from nicotine. It wasn't easy, but it most certainly was worthwhile. Two packs + a day is a lot of fools tax to be paying, especially at today's prices.

I needed a location for my shift light controller that I could see and reach but didn’t want to put holes in the dash so had my brother make this mount on a 3D printer that clamps in the ashtray hole and mounts the controller allowing some adjustment. Works well.

Timely revival of this thread and first time I’ve seen your post.
But after doing some recent work to the boat sound system and finally helping my son get tunes rolling in his 86, which came with a previously cut dash for a single din so that’s what went back in for ease of…everything, I was thinkin last night while driving the 77 with a prefect condition factory AM radio that I need to do something.
The thought popped up why not just leave the radio alone and use a new marine receiver. Many come with a very small exposed head unit or moreso a big wired remote control. Could hide it in the ashtray compartment potentially.

Cool thread, it gots me thinking now about putting something there like a vac gauge, fake ejector seat button, etc. - them cup holder things make me nervous - too close to radio.

Them cupholder things are a great addition. Got the cheapest overpriced one I could find for the 86 a few years ago. Works great nothing spills. Even in that truck but it’s a known factor it rides so stiff you don’t put your beer in the cupholder until you’ve pulled a couple swigs off the top!
