I’m only losing oil from my timing chain cover I have a slight leak, just enough to get on your nerves because everything is dirty but not enough to leave a drop on the ground. I’m not leaking coolant as far as I know I’m just having a heating issue, it seems like the truck is getting too hot before the thermostat opens, the upper radiator hose gets very tight before it opens so there’s a lot of pressure in the system. So much pressure it pushes around 5 drops or so of coolant out of the thermostat housing gasket before the thermostat opens.

I get lots of bubbling in the radiator too . I noticed the rubber around the spring on my radiator cap has disintegrated

As far as I’m concerned a little bubbling is no big deal, but if it’s frothy like after you shake what’s left in the bottom of the milk jug. Then you’ve got an issue. I’m not sure if I’ve got a head gasket issue or what’s going on. It’s being very odd, first time thermostat opens it opens around when it should then next time is a little higher temp and then next a little higher and so on.

Alright race fans riddle me this.

Since the timing plug is still OE TAPED to that wire loom BUT ol dude set it to "eight", does anybody want to wager what will be the TRUE timing advance? You can see the dirt built up at the seam...it aint never been unplugged I betcha.
Reckon its around 15-22° advanced...orrrr....?

How long after dude with the timing light hit it up did she start running hot anyways?

How does this puppy start up anyways? Pretty eager to go or not so much? Any dieseling after shut off?

We're getting closer / warmer / no pun intended. .

He didn’t touch the timing just told me what it supposedly was, pretty sure had 160 thermostat in it at that time. Was probably may or so when he did it. The truck definitely doesn’t start with a bump of the key by any means it takes a few seconds to get up. And by the terms of dieseling not really it usually doesn’t it shudders a little when shut off but usually pretty normal shut down.

dont trust people who, after youve seen for yourself, may not have been 100% about what they were doing either.

Remember, if you dont truly believe what you are saying is a lie or wrong, you would sound very sincere and not at all alarming to someone.

all im saying is what rusty is getting at, things may very well be not what they seem, and you are going to need to do the grunt work here to find out what things are and that way you can fix what is.

Youre learning a lot, and rememebr, once we figiure out together you would have a lot of experience going forward to know to 1) learn things to do them yourself 2) learn things to be dilligent on others 3) Hate the previous MFer who touched things(Even if its yourself)

I hate past me, shes always doing **** without regards to future me.

@AuroraGirl i trust the guy that told me it was 8° I just had no idea what was going on I never understood how a timing light works and he was like you see it at 8 well piss no I can’t see an 8 what’re you talking about. And like rusty said that plug has probably never been unplugged, although a new block has been put in, so whatever the timing is at is probably wrong. I highly doubt dad knew you were supposed to unplug it to set the timing, he has a buddy that’s a mechanic and I’m not sure if he helped him during the process or not. I turned the timing a little bit yesterday until it idled down I turned a little more and truck started to shake some so I turned back opposite direction. It got down barely under 1000 with the est unplugged but after I shut the truck off and plugged back in I started it back up and it still idles around 1100 and the timing is advanced some compared to unplugged. I have discovered a vacuum leak and I am in the process of getting a gasket, I’m just gonna use a felpro from the parts store.

@AuroraGirl do you know if I have to disconnect any hard lines on the throttle body to swap the gasket? I can undo the vacuum lines but I really don’t want to touch the fuel line. Also do you know if those throttle body spacers are worth anything? I’ve heard they help a little bit? Now would be the time to get one if it’s worth it.

I think they can help with heat soak as far as driveability goes but in a stock application I can only see you benefitting so much. Im not a TBI expert so apologies for not being more help. Is the fuel line a hard line or does it have a rubber section somewhere? There should be something where you can move it out of the way. But why dont you want to undo it? I would do that just to get a new.. crush washer? I assume its using a crush washer but I guess gasket, o ring, etc.. whatever it uses.

In the first picture on the rught of the throttle body is the fuel in I believe, and the second photo that hardline going 45° down is fuel return maybe?

penetrating fluid. disconnect the line where ever the fuel filter is, that should allow gas to be drained from the upper end by the TB (I dont know where the TBI fuel filter is tbh), but I would seriously make sure you CAN remove it since youre doing this work since you would rather do it now than figure it out when its less convenient and you needed to disconnect it.

If you get a flare wrench with 6 hex and soak it in some fluid, you should be able to negotiate it. But if its hardline all you can see, it tells me somewhere its prob rubber down on the frame somewhere because the fuel pump pulses would crack a line if it didnt have a twist loop or a rubber section somewhere.

Im not sure to be honest. it appears to be feeding the intake which makes me think its a vacuum source but I dont know TBI setups LOL so I could be way off.
