guess i'm a 'little guy' around here.

5'11" 175lbs

retired army cavalry scout
i like 'knowing how to do stuff' but not 'doing that stuff' all the time.

i live on 100 acres m/l, 30 minute drive to the nearest town of 5000 residents.

before 'the war', i was pretty outgoing, now i like to mind my own business mostly.
not 'broken', just jaded.

i hunt to eat, it isn't really fun for me since it is usually during weather i can't handle very well.
i process all the wild game as well as our livestock since i'm too cheap to pay anyone to do it.

i handload/reload hand cast everything i shoot other than rimfire.
.308 to 20ga

i used to be a big PC gamer (battlefield series, counter-strike etc) and have a eyefinity 3x1+1 display setup.

don't game anymore since our internet out here is abysmal.

i do stay active on the ham radio though.
cw (morse code) mostly but do pick up the microphone a time or two.

used to ride motorcycles, inline four cylinders, but had to quit trying to push those bikes around.

dang, i sound terrible.
;)

i like older vehicles and wish i had a dodge dart swinger w/318 ready to drive.

like working on my '85 k20 when it's something i know what i'm doing.

have beagle dogs for rabbit hunting (i say) but mostly they lounge on the couch.

these days i'm pretty boring but i'm good with that.
:)

Never played, never learned. I gave this one to a friend of mine that is a big time guitar player. And when I talk about friends, I don’t have any my age. All my friends are 55+. My best friend just turned 70 in October lol. I’ve always been told I was an old soul. When doc handed me over to my mom the first thing she said was “he’s been here before” and my family isn’t religious so that’s saying a lot.
My kinda person!
Do you play guitar?
I forgot to add that. I have a small collection of guitars. I play from time to time.

My names Spencer, I live in Saint Charles MO, I'm 18, will be 19 on April 27th too. 5 foot 10.
I am a manual machinist/tool grinder (I get bounced around the shop where needed).
We primarily do work for the aerospace industry like Boeing, except we don't make fly-away parts, we make tools to build and fix their stuff.

I have been south but have not been far north, east, or west. In the next few years I plan for that to change.

I am an eagle scout.

What got me into old stuff was my Grandfathers 72 C20. Been in my extended family since new and has been in my direct family since 1989. 108k miles, one repaint to stock colors in 1990. 350/350/HO52. Dual exhaust and slots (16.5) were added by my grandfather after he got it.

Although what got me more into actually wrenching was the mini bike. A 70's Ruttman frame that we got from the local flea market when I was 5 or 6 for a sum of $15 (just a roller) My dad sourced parts for it and a honda clone and "We" put it together, together. Had a lot of fun on that bike and in more recent years I have done some of my own stuff to it like the straight pipe and fixed some cracks on the frame. (photo from day before roadkill ziptie drags)

Got into wood working and old tools around 2013-4 and that was my main hobby until my dad presented me with my 76 back in September of 2016 as my first vehicle, That is where I began the slippery slope of more mechanical and body working.

Then in May of 2018 I purchased my 79 Big Ten that I think most are aware of here and what started as a $800 to get it back on the road has turned into a full frame off resto, which has led me to gain a lot of knowledge on the bowels of these trucks and year features/differences in trying to source parts for my 79.

I graduated high school Class of 2019 and in September of 2018 started working where I still work at. August of 2019 I started trade school for my associates in Precision Machining Technology. July of 2019 I started on the 1975 K5 project, in december of 2019 I started on doing the paint and body for my friends 90 Honda CRX

His neighbor had backed into him so get that and all of the other dents out of it, fix the rust issues and repaint to the factory red.

That's quite a story!
Cool we have the same birthdays.
Also cool to see another machinist.

I went to tech College and got my associates in applied science. General machining, precision grinding, cnc, 3, 4, and 5 axis milling, 2D and 3D machining, cad and cam, as well metallurgy, and various versions of math up to trig.

Graduated college with honors, 3.7 GPA, would've been a 4, but I SUCK at English and grammar, I barely passed those stupid required classes, which hurt my GPA.

You do well with your body work, that's something I just don't have the patience to do.
I far surpass the "eye" for it, but I just don't have the patience. Lol

Great Bio. With your skills you'll never go hungry. Love the mini. Got twelve tickets on mine when I was 15 which included eluding police which I did successfully. Cops showed up at my house with an arrest warrant after my friend squealed under interrogation.

Name is Denis. I'm 42yrs old, 6'2" and 240lbs, trying to lose some waist though. Grew up in Worcester, MA. lived there for 30 years till I met my wife online and moved to IL (big mistake, the move, not the wife, lol). First car was an '86 Escort that I used to beat the tar out of in construction sites. Then I became a 3rd gen lover and had 3 of them. Then I met my buddy's dad's friend who owned the '78 Stepside I bought. Fell in love with square bodies ever since and haven't owned anything but trucks for the past 20+ years. I've owned newer trucks, 2001 Silverado, 2008 GMC Dually diesel, 2009 Silverado diesel, but now all I have is my '78 Suburban and that's all I plan to drive is older vehicles.

Most of my family was in the Navy, one Uncle in the Marines. I wanted to join the Navy and become either a sniper or pilot but back in the mid 90's you couldn't if you wore coke bottles. So I tried going to school for mechanical engineering but didn't like it. Joined the work force and ended up becoming a maintenance tech. Built lots of vehicles from mud trucks, to hill climbers, to drag cars and street racers, and did my fair share of all of it also. Did the long haul gang on the Hot Rod Power Tour twice, '98 and '99, the only 2 years they had the East Coast tour. Went from Mass to FL and it was the best time of my life. I would love to go on the Ultimate Adventure one day but who knows.

Currently living in a condo so I can't work on my vehicles at home. It's all done at work. Saving cash for a house but son is graduating college this May and unsure which direction finances are headed. We want to get out of IL so deciding on a place to move to that has good jobs with houses that have lots of land. I used to game a LOT but have stopped since it was taking too much time away from the wife. I played EVE Online for 13 years (since it's release in 2003), WoW, all the Battlefields, SWTOR, and more. I love role playing games. Only other hobby really is car stuff. I love wrenching and building them. Trying my hand at hammer forming so I can make custom sheet metal parts for my vehicles. Though I haven't actually made anything to show yet.

I'll jump in the ring, kind of. Lol I'm knocking on the door of 40, I was born and raised in the river bottoms of Illinois, duck and goose hunting is in my blood. Also in my blood is Emergency services, my parents were founding members of one of the first ambulance services in our area decades ago, my mom was a dispatcher for 20-some odd years. I am the youngest of 6, 5 of us which are in Emergency services of some capacity, my oldest brother is a paramedic and our chief engineer of our fire dept, my second oldest brother is the Assistant chief of the fire dept in the town he lives, my 4th oldest sibling and brother is a Captain, my oldest sister (#3 on the roster Lol) flew the nest and moved up to the city, got married and had a family years ago, she was in nursing before a car accident destroyed her shoulder, and my other sister (#5) is an EMT where she lives, that leaves me currently standing as a Lieutenant on the fire department where I live. I received my 20 year pin in February, between my 3 brothers, my sister, and myself we have a collective 100+ years serving the towns that we live in.

I started working at a young age, always wanting to follow in my dads foot steps of being a mechanic, he got me my first job at 13 years old in the local engine shop sweeping floors and moving parts around and doing general parts cleaning and it grew from there. The bus used to drop me off at the machine shop and then the boss would bring me home and drop me off. I worked there into my mid 20's when I decided to make a little bit of a change, did some schooling while working in the machine shop and got into the Ag Mechanics world. I spent almost 14 years in Agriculture until I decided to make a change in 2014 and joined the union and started working on heavy equipment and haven't looked back. I still help out at the engine shop from time to time. But having a family at home, working full time and being on the fire dept. doesn't leave me much time. I built my first engine solo when I was 17 years old, a 6" rod 355 that i beat the absolute snot out of! and I still have my hands in several engines a year outside of work it seems like helping people out or just doing things to tinker and keep my mind fresh. 2 years ago when I rebuilt from scratch the Big Block that's currently in my truck, I went back to my roots at the machine shop and worked alongside the man who was my mentor growing up. I just remember telling him that 25 years ago, I had no idea how much I would learn or enjoy doing that kind of stuff, or the impact growing up in that place would have on me, and that one of the coolest things i'd ever done in my adult life was being back in the engine shop working with him building the engine for my next toy, in my next chapter of my life. I could never repay Steve for everything he taught me about engines. especially high performance ones, as stock car racing used to be a big thing here and we would build or freshen somewhere along the lines of 25-30 race engines a season. From claimer street stock engines to 360-430+ inch small blocks, and then when they came onto the late model scene the sb2's and sb2.2's making 900ish+ hp. I had my hands in lots of high performance stuff growing up and well into my mid to late 20's. So that's where my love of all things high performance was born from.

I have been pretty fortunate to have some really close friends that are more like family and the same people I called my best friends through high school in the mid 90's are the same people I call my best friends to this day. I love vacationing to the Northwoods of Wisconsin, where my best friend has a lake house. It's the best place to reset a few times a year, and we fish and play and cook and enjoy life and the lake. I hunt ducks with my brothers every fall, we have hunted together every season for the last 15ish years. I'm currently engaged to the love of my life and she brings two kids into the relationship that I treat like my own, even if sometimes they don't' like it! I've told them that I can fight with them or for them, that the choice is theirs to make. I've bought dirt bikes and 4 wheelers for the boy, and I recently just bought her daughter her first car. So I like to think they know I care about them too..

Outside of that I have a love for things automotive, I used to own 4 wheelers and motorcycles, but the older I get the safer I try to be. And I really enjoy my old truck, working on it and driving it when I can! It's been a 4 year work in progress and it's what brought me to this site. I told her I needed to find a toy that I could make my own and that the family could enjoy. So that's when I started looking and went back to my roots of 4 wheel drive trucks and found her in all her one ton glory just 15 minutes from where we live. My Fiancé told me to take the money and go buy it without any hesitation or reservation, and she liked the fact that that were born the same year! Lol The only thing she wishes is that it was a 4 speed because she likes rowing through the gears, but we compromise and maybe someday i'll build her one too.

I still smoke but I rarely drink as I partied pretty hard in my late teens and 20's and I think I got it mostly out of my system. But I do enjoy a cold beer now and then or a shot of Jameson regular or Jameson Black Barrel to toast a special occasion. I'm 5'5" and 158lbs with a tattoo and always wanting to get another one, but like the truck my life is a work in progress. And maybe someday i'll get around to it. But for now I try to work hard so that I can someday (hopefully) retire and live a decent life if I don't beat myself up too bad working on heavy equipment.. work smarter, not harder! I suppose I've rambled on enough, once the marbles get rolling around in my head they have a hard time stopping. But that's me in a nutshell, I've been working since I was 13 years old, and still learning new things all the time. And I try to help people whenever I get the chance or my knowledge can be used to help someone out. Probably because of some of the things I've seen in 20 years on the fire dept.- I just try to enjoy life as much as I can. Because tomorrow is promised to no one.
