Man, I was doing some numbers on this and came up with. 17 oil changes a year (1 every 3 weeks)at about a $1,000 doing them yourself.

52,000 miles a year at 5 days a week.

1 tank of gas every day at about $50 which is about $1,000 a month in gas.

You must really love to drive that square and I think that's great but, I could never even come close to affording that. Lol

Glad you can. Must have a great job that pays a ton. Ever think of moving closer to work?

I’m on something called an extra board. I don’t work daily. I protect call offs. Still get paid daily. Sometimes I work every 12 hours. In that case I stay gone. For a few days at a time. I also protect a terminal. About 40 miles away. Jobs weird. I guess sometimes I’m regular. Then I do drive it daily.

With my vast shade tree knowledge , from what I see, it looks good. Just file down any burrs that may be there. I’ve had worst without issues. Hopefully not much trash hit the bearings.

If you're gonna re-use it, I'd install a magnetic fill plug!

Looks like I’ll need new bearings all around
Siiigh. I hate setting pinion preload. Don’t even have a crush washer handy

I'm going to do my 14ff with different guts sometime soon. Nice thing about the 14ff is no shimming to set side preload and external shimming for pinion depth--good first axle to do for a newb like me. Good luck

Well I’m reusing the gears so I shouldn’t need to re shim. That carrier shim has some good meat that I can mic to get the original thickness to replace. Just annoying I went from replacing a carrier to a complete rebuild lol.
The pinion bearings actually looked good but since they’re out I’m going to replace them.

Well, the bearings are toast. And even with a chip off the pinion, that force could have caused minute cracks elsewhere.
You'll have to give the entire housing a good flush and I'd still use a magnetic filler plug on the rebuild.
Keep us posted.
