Put 200 miles on it today, No issues, other than oil leaks again. Best I can tell it doesn’t look like it’s coming from the valve covers, that chrome breather is spewing all kinds of crap out of it now that I moved it to the back by the firewall It’s more evident. Spray over everything and you can tell it’s running down The valve cover to the block, down the headers, back on the muffler on the driver side. It’s gotta be a pretty good damn leak.
The passenger side is wet too but not as bad. Best I can tell is it’s coming out of the PCV valve grommet and flowing down the valve cover to the firewall.
There are other leaks or more like seepage’s. I think the front intake manifold silicone bead because it’s coming out there and getting blown all over the place by the fan. Running down the block surface between the cylinder head. Not a big leak, not even enough to drip, just enough to piss you off.
Also, I have a major leak down on the front crossmember on the passenger side. I have looked and wiped and observed for weeks and weeks and cannot tell where it’s coming from. Only the passenger side of the front crossmember is getting wet. But it’s getting a lot. It runs down the back of the crossmember onto that lip, and after 100 miles or so you can splash the oil in that lip with your fingers. I have laid under the truck, everything is bright orange, there are no drips. Everything down there is kind of covered in a film, but I don’t see any blatant causes of this leak. I thought maybe oil pan gasket at the bottom of the crank by the dampener, but that wouldn’t explain only being on the passenger side. I thought maybe coming from the fuel pump gasket but again nothing is obvious.
Part of me is really upset with all of these oil leaks. The fact that I had the engine out, used quality, gaskets on everything, and have had this much trouble really pisses me off. The other part of me is just like, drive the damn thing, wipe it down once in a while and be happy. But the chrome breather leak, and the leak on the crossmember are both very decent leaks with the potential to push out a lot of oil overtime.
I’ve got to figure something out with the valve cover breather situation. I think tomorrow I will go find my big intake breather that was on my square body and see if it has that tube that I can connect to the valve cover instead.
As far as the PCV valve, it’s just a loose Grommet. Maybe I’ll take all that **** out, wipe it all down with brake clean, and put some black RTV in it when it goes back together, I don’t know. I’ve never had these issues before and I drove 350s for tens of thousands of miles
