I don't know much about this gen of trucks but the plan for my 84c20 is slightly built vortec 350 with a 4L80e.

Simplicity wise that's pretty straightforward for mine.

I would think up something similar that's pretty straightforward. More time driving less time fabricating.

My $.02.

I would start with the interior. Fixing/soundproofing the floor will make a big difference driving experience wise.

I put a 4L80E in my 85C 20 about 10 years ago. Used a standalone controller, worked good. Once I figured out the TPS parameters. I can’t remember the brand, I would have to look back through my build thread on that one.

Spent some time and got my markers/blinkers working. Little rewiring and probing with the light. Drove it in pouring COLD rain on the highway with no wipers or heater, just a rag to keep the fog off the glass. Successful trip bout 40 miles round trip. Man, I have got some plans for this thing. Wait till you see the shifter knob I’m gonna use :)

Put 200 miles on it today, No issues, other than oil leaks again. Best I can tell it doesn’t look like it’s coming from the valve covers, that chrome breather is spewing all kinds of crap out of it now that I moved it to the back by the firewall It’s more evident. Spray over everything and you can tell it’s running down The valve cover to the block, down the headers, back on the muffler on the driver side. It’s gotta be a pretty good damn leak.

The passenger side is wet too but not as bad. Best I can tell is it’s coming out of the PCV valve grommet and flowing down the valve cover to the firewall.

There are other leaks or more like seepage’s. I think the front intake manifold silicone bead because it’s coming out there and getting blown all over the place by the fan. Running down the block surface between the cylinder head. Not a big leak, not even enough to drip, just enough to piss you off.

Also, I have a major leak down on the front crossmember on the passenger side. I have looked and wiped and observed for weeks and weeks and cannot tell where it’s coming from. Only the passenger side of the front crossmember is getting wet. But it’s getting a lot. It runs down the back of the crossmember onto that lip, and after 100 miles or so you can splash the oil in that lip with your fingers. I have laid under the truck, everything is bright orange, there are no drips. Everything down there is kind of covered in a film, but I don’t see any blatant causes of this leak. I thought maybe oil pan gasket at the bottom of the crank by the dampener, but that wouldn’t explain only being on the passenger side. I thought maybe coming from the fuel pump gasket but again nothing is obvious.

Part of me is really upset with all of these oil leaks. The fact that I had the engine out, used quality, gaskets on everything, and have had this much trouble really pisses me off. The other part of me is just like, drive the damn thing, wipe it down once in a while and be happy. But the chrome breather leak, and the leak on the crossmember are both very decent leaks with the potential to push out a lot of oil overtime.

I’ve got to figure something out with the valve cover breather situation. I think tomorrow I will go find my big intake breather that was on my square body and see if it has that tube that I can connect to the valve cover instead.

As far as the PCV valve, it’s just a loose Grommet. Maybe I’ll take all that **** out, wipe it all down with brake clean, and put some black RTV in it when it goes back together, I don’t know. I’ve never had these issues before and I drove 350s for tens of thousands of miles

Somebody told me stuff some steel wool in the baffle of the valve cover and that will stop so much oil coming out. Of course, I’m sure there’s a bigger problem, worn rings or something, but honestly, if we could just contain some of the oil I could look past that. The old gal will happily do 70 miles an hour down the interstate as long as you want to. Just checked the oil when you stop for gas….

Did you try running the pcv valve made for a lower vacuum engine, such as a 1970 lt1 350 Corvette? With the Thumper cam your engine may not even make enough vacuum for your pcv valve to work. And run a vent tube to the air cleaner, just like GM did it.

For the passenger side, cross member area leak... I can't remember, was the fuel pump bolt hole already discussed here?

I’ll try that today. It was a quart low today, which is a lot

Yeah I suspected one of those holes weeks ago back so I plugged them but nothing changed. Need to take the lower bolt out

You know, when I’m just driving this thing 12 miles to the gym at 65 miles an hour, I feel like it doesn’t leak this much oil. I really think those 70 and 75 mile an hour Speeds are pushing this thing. I’m going to dry it all off and drive it 65 for a week and see what happens. The RPMs are just so freaking high. The truck will do 75 at 3500 RPM and it seems to not mind it at all, but that 40 psi pumping through that damn valve cover baffle needs to stop.

And I’m going to see if I can find that PCV valve today for the Corvette

I put the truck on Jack stands, cranked it, and got under it. It’s just not leaking at idle. The more I look at it, the more I think it’s coming from the intake manifold Valley silicone bead in the front. That area gets super dirty, super quick and the clutch fan blows it all over everything. But the left side is worse. You can see on the timing chain cover how oil is running down and I’m almost positive It’s coming from that area up top, down the left side of the engine, and to the crossmember and back. It would make sense that it would only do it in high RPM situations when the oil is pumping to the top. Remember at idle, there’s barely a trickle of oil coming out of the rockers. So we know it’s not getting a ton of oil up there, but I bet at 3000 to 3500 RPM it is.

I found the 1970 350 Corvette high-performance PCV valve, but I have to go in the store to order it. Special order. I’ll do that today.

Looks like I’m going to yank the intake manifold soon. However, I’m not installing that boat anchor back on the engine, I’m going to get an aluminum performer or something. Then maybe I won’t have to run that carb adapter and I can run a spacer instead.

Found a new heater core at O’Reillys for $55. And it’s not a cheap aluminum one so that’s cool. Got it installed, just haven’t hooked the hoses back up to it.

Honestly, I never had those leak when left without a bolt, and I lived where we'd be going up and down steep slopes and high revs. When I got older I did install a short bolt and flat washer even though it wasn't needed.
