The later ones called for ATF. I'm not sure if running ATF in an older one would cause problems though.
Your correct. The 205 just takes gear oil. That said I have heard some run ATF. But also it's just gears and bearings and I don't think his normal running so far would have hurt it. No oil would be worse that half and half over fullI may be wrong, but I don't think the np205 takes atf, but gear oil. In which case, the mixing of the two may be problematic.
Are y'all talking about the bumperettes? Those things on the front bumper that protect it from an forward impact?I'll be pulling them off of the Suburban at some point. One has a little rust on it though.
Hey @eskimomann209 this was the last time. This is when i killed the factory 12 bolt and built the 10 that i just cooked.Spent 8 hours saturday doin a rear swap and conversion.

Ohhhh got it. That’s rough.. just a gear swap or just a posi swap?Hey @eskimomann209 this was the last time. This is when i killed the factory 12 bolt and built the 10 that i just cooked.
Old rear was a 3.08 new one was a 3.42. I left the 3.42 pinion alone and just put the ring on the new posi and put it all inOhhhh got it. That’s rough.. just a gear swap or just a posi swap?
I know people say that it’s ok to swap the ring onto the new carrier but sometimes it’s better to take that little extra time ( and money ) to knock it all out. Usually if I plan on keeping something old, I spend a lot of time inspecting. And if I feel slightly nervous I swap it out.
Cheaper to spend money on a new crush sleeve to inspect the pinion bearings VS a whole rebuild. But I’m a wiggly one. I’m no rear end expert but I have rebuilt a lot of gear boxes in industrial settings.

For a daily driver!!??Get a 12 bolt out of a 4x4 with 6 lugs and make a Lincoln locker. You'll love it![]()

Spools are cheapI like this eaton clutch posi i have but i dont think id hate constant 2 wheels pushin
I don't think an overfill condition in a gear driven t-case would cause noise, probably only leaks. It's "splash" lubricated like the differential, no pump to cavitate or surge.
