warmed up and timing set at 8 degrees

got everything warmed up and timing set at 8*BTDC. bear with me I have never done this before and all I knew was anywhere from 4-12* for stock 350s.
any suggestions if it doesnt sound right would be appreciated.

again this is with open headers into 3-4ft of 2.25 pipe

You're total is what's critical, 36* all in by 2800 is ideal, but that is dependent on compression and fuel being used, you don't want detonation so if it rattles under load need to back it down a degree until it stops, you're initial will be what it is, then make a note of that for later reference if you have to take the distributor out again.

Cleaned, new gaskets and freeze plugs, carb rebuild, new timing set and lifters, and some smog legal headers for my 40 year old 454 :)

I was looking on Summit and they have Doug's Tri-Y's (which claim to be CARB compliant in some cases) that look more like yours than the Thorleys. I can see the air injection ports on yours but without a CARB compliance tag welded on to them you're going to have a problem with the emissions test.

My smog shop didnt even look twice at them. They are old and once i got the truck back together they look like they have been there forever.

Sweet! I'd be sure to go to the same shop every time just to avoid any future problems. Noticed it's running pretty clean on the sniffer, wish I could say the same for mine.

Hell yeah, this shop did me good! The motor is all original, being 40 years old it runs super clean! Had to go through every hose on the truck to fix vacuum and evap leaks, and tune the carb but it has no cats so it is easy enough

It's pretty. Should run great new. New paint always makes them run better.

Installed new speakers in the corners. I know the brackets are cheap looking but they didn't cost anything and the seat hides them. I'll clean up the wiring once my amp gets installed. The sound out of them is 100% better then the previous speakers I was using.
