Air horns don't disappoint. Tank in crash position right behind the front bumper. Horns mounted to the solenoid right on the tank in the daily GMT800.

Square also has the tank behind the bumper, horns just a little higher behind the grille. Both are twin trumpets. Maybe you can see them in the square:

In spite of the "group expert" absolute insistence on arguing me to death that the only body mounts are 73-80 and 81-87 regardless of anything else, no difference for 4x4 or 3/4 ton...

They are in fact different with my K20 rear cab mounts being about twice as tall as my C10 mounts.

Which makes total sense, since LMC carries two separate PNs for them...

So anyways, wasted hours and hours and 120 bucks because some ****** who's probably never had a cab off a K20 but has to answer every single post was wrong from his couch...

So I moved on to fitting the headers, distributor, steering column, XJ shaft, and ignition switch.

Indeed we all make mistakes.

But when you're telling people how to spend their hard earned money, should be a little more cautious with the advice if you don't actually know.

He's certainly not going to reimburse more or anyone else the money wasted on C10 body mounts because "they're all the same".

He's just going to skip off to some other post with bad advice.

Agreed, but that’s also why we have the term “more research required”.

It wasn't me, was it? Lol.

I wasn't aware that 2wd vs 4x4 was the difference, but I do recall a difference in the earlier 70's crew cabs vs the later 70's. I think. 2wd vs 4x4 would make more sense.

No, Facebook guy.

It's whatever, Mr Sad Sack is correct, I accepted his argument in spite of knowing and pointing out ahead of time there are two different part numbers.

I'm on to steering shafts now.

I bought a whole system off Epay to get a good 12V compressor. Sold the tank and horns at Carlisle for the price I paid for everything. Used a California tank and horns off salvage trucks.

Spent the weekend prepping and painting the bottom side of the cab and disassembling the hardware on the box.

I pulled it into the shop to put on the lift for the first time to start some maintenance, only to learn that the PO weed straight pipes on in a fashion that won't allow me to use the frame to lift it.

Is lifting from the body mounts safe on these old rigs?

I would shoot for suspension or frame, body mounts are solid but wouldn’t trust them outright to hold the weight of the truck. IMO which ain’t worth much to most… if you feel safe, and nothing happens- we will continue to see you around. If not ….

There's no way I'd lift a square by it's cab and work under it.

Absolutely not. Those body mounts are just riveted on, you need to be under the frame rails. Either get the exhaust redone or don't use a lift and just use jackstands

That actual frame mounts for the cab? Or the cab mounting area itself?

The frame mounts are strong enough. Sure, they are held on with rivets... but they are strong rivets designed to hold up in a crash. Also, the rear spring hangers are riveted on too, and everyone will support a truck by the axle and willingly lay under it.

Agree with you, one exception- your spreading the load of the truck over 24 rivets for just the rear (light end) of the truck, as much as I wouldn’t think it move on just the cab, I would bet an engineer at GM would say it’s only meant to support the body structure where as the frame crossmember on the front is grade 8 bolts and hard mounted to the frame - no rivets. It’ll likely be fine, but would I personally recommend or do it, nafc
