2nd generation Taurus,Nissan trucks,Chrysler town and country, and actually a bunch of others, cars you have to remove the entire dash. Just set them on fire and call your insurance company.

I kind of hate to say it, but the easiest heater core replace I ever did was in a late 80's Ford. 6 screws behind the glovebox, take the 2 hoses off and the thing dang near fell out on the floor. Took longer to drive to the parts store to buy the replacement than it did to do the entire remove/replace.

Of course I had a similar vintage Ford card where cutting in from the firewall side was considered a safer bet than trying to strip the entire inside of the car out. I'll probably just be running a bypass on my British project if I ever get it roadworthy, it doesn't look fun and sitting next to the transmission will probably be plenty warm anyway.

I've had literally hundreds of '96+ Chrysler minivan dashboards out. I think I had it down to 4.5 hours, including yanking the HVAC box and "fitting" aftermarket evaporators and then putting it all back together.
They got much easier after 95. Heater core on a 95 book is 6 hours, you aren't going to make it in 6 hours on the first one,and I never did a second one. That was 2001,only reason I remember it is, it was the same week maybe even the same day my only child was born,so I may have been slightly distracted. I got the call at work, hi.its me don't speed or anything, but I'm in labor. Yea right, dont speed! Speed, use the horn tailgate pass anywhere you can etc. That boy wasn't going to wait either,I was pushed into immediate service at the hospital, hold her leg up here like this,I hadn't planned on being a helper. Vince had his own plan.

update to the mirror project, got the new gaskets for the door and mirror mount bracket the new ones seem to be a lot thicker than the originals. anyone else ran into this?? so much so that the stainless cover with the grommet on the top won't fit- looks like I may have to gently grind some of the cover at the top of it to get the mirror centered in the hole with the grommet. anyone got any ideas??

I see the two I won't be loading/unloading.... even if they're parked in the white zone, which is for loading and unloading only.
What are you, the Central Scrutinizer? :)

Yes, yes I am. Or delusions of such. Good catch sir, good catch.

Color me impressed. And surprised anyone got the reference.

And no, I'm still not loading or unloading the taller ones.

Paul's truck is the 1972 that is a simple 1/2 ton and easy to load.
Mine is the 1979 3/4 ton and also simple to load.
Max had his 1984 Sub with a 4 inch lift and rides on 35's, lots of smaller stuff went inside of it.
Now Jakes truck, it has a 6 inch lift and rolls on 37's, we made the youngster climb up in there to retrieve items....

I hadn't forgotten jam in Joe's garage, the stratocaster with the wammy bar or the white zone. I had forgotten about the central scrutinizer though,I haven't heard all that since 1980.

Now that we are finally getting better weather, I hope to get back on Project Rusty Banana. We have plans to tackle at least one side of rockers and inner/outer cab corner. It would be nice to have one side complete and come back the next weekend to get the other side. Then it is onto the roof and windshield frame. For those of you who have done a roof, any tips?

Removed the old heater core. I don’t usually time myself when doing things, but probably because I was dreading this particular task I made note of when I started. Turns out the job wasn’t that bad at all. Had the heater box out of the truck in 45 minutes, and had the heater core out and on the bench in another 15 minutes. Nothing else was broken so should be good to go tomorrow when O’Reilly will have the new core.

I have my whole setup setting in the barn if for some reason you need parts. I went Vintage Air for my redo. I know you are long way from California but if something isn't doing it's thing take a picture of what you need and I'll send it.

Got my bed set back on the chassis again on Sunday. Yesterday I fixed up with fresh new gaskets and attached the fuel filler necks to the bedsides.

Need to get on the underside and actually get the nuts on the bolts to hold the bed on next.
