Today began Operation Engine Bay Declutter, with the goal of cleaning up the engine bay by removing unused and unwanted hardware and tidying up wire harnesses etc.

Began by removing the cruise control module and associated cables and vacuum lines. The PO had installed a Dakota digital dash, but didn’t remove the now obsolete speedometer cables and such. It’s all gone now, including the vacuum servo motor mounted to the firewall. Everything will be bagged and boxed up in the event I ever sell the truck. (Not likely!)

Next step will be removing all the under hood air conditioning components, including the evaporator housing, compressor, brackets and hoses. Have an AC Delete box on order so can keep heat and defrost. Once that arrives I’ll get the AC system evacuated and go to work.

I did nothing big, or fun today. Fixed 2 spare tires, and fixed a driver's side rear on my 80. I really need to order a tire machine to speed that process up. I also replaced the sliding rear window latch to a metal one, on my 85.

Snort. Radiohead, my 69 got an RV cam and a three speed with overdrive out of a 62 wagon in front of a 413 rearend. I'd installed headers and packs. That made for some pretty close gears and a unique sounding engine to most.

Bored, I cruised the drag a few times and was challenged by a couple guys in nice Vetts, who got very disgusted when they learned what they were challenging.

Elsewhere, I was challenged by a way nice Super Sport. Due to traffic, he couldn't get away from me, or me from him. There was the usual "rump," "rump" stuff. The look on his face when I was able to push through a few of those close gears was kind of comical. It was one of those "what the hell was that" things.

Of course, I'd have had to go look for new doors in a race against him, but he never got the chance to know, and, probably, left scratching his head about the guy with the really exotic truck. . . .

Evacuated? You are removing a working air conditioner?

Yes please. And/Or.. do you want to sell any of it? Assuming it could transfer over from a 75 K5 to a 77 K10, right? Should be similar if not the same stuff..
Not planning to sell it, I’m not sure if it even works as speedometer cables were never hooked up as long as I’ve owned the truck. I’ll get you some more pics today when I’m back in the shop.

Got it, okay - yes please. Whenever you get a chance. At least then I'll know what I'm looking for as I keep my eyes open for the equipment to add to mine. :D Thank you!

Took it for it's first drive in nearly 30 years, first time with big block power:

A coworker has a 68 Firebird that came with the 250 Sprint engine, and he has tons of stories of his younger years racing that car and beating his opponents. Said it would go as fast you had the balls to drive it. He had it up to 140 and backed it off because the front end was floating. There's a long straight road that parallels the tracks here east of town, miles of straight and that's where he got it up to 140. He still has the Sprint engine, but put a big block in the car a long time ago. It's a beauty of a car.

I thought I had some pics of mine, I do, but they're not good angles of the whole system.
