I don't believe I've ever seen a grill like that. Certainly most '55 have a different grill. Is it because it's a one ton?

I just googled it and it says Chevy had both the old body style and the new one the same year... and a 6100 truck is a two ton. Whoa!
Yup, medium duty had some different trim, just like the square ones. But the OBS/400s they had the 3500HD at 15K gvwr, and the Topkick for the mediums.

"Shift Light"? What do you mean by that? Isn't it a little bright?

I think it depends on what it is sensing.
For example, racing tachs have a shift light to remind you to grab the next gear based upon a certain rpm being achieved.
Another example would be sensing manifold vacuum and telling you to shift for maximum economy.

That's what comes to mind on a Saturday night at the radio ranch.

So what does a "shift light" do?

You can see it light up in your peripheral vision and know when to hit the next gear. You can focus on keeping it straight, rather than watching the tach.

It is a 2nd Series which makes it like the 56-59 trucks. Being a 6100 it has the wide grille/fenders & they have large wheel openings.
I put it on my old trail rig 76 K20 chassis. It's GM Corp 10 bolt front & 14FF rear. SM465/NP205 trans/case with a 350 engine.
Here's what I started with years back.

VERY cool. Did you have to modify the frame or cab to make it fit? It came out great. I'd drive it.

The 55 frame is flat & the Square frame dips between the engine & bed area. I made some stands to accommodate the difference.
I may use the original frame later down the road but what I have concocted now is very drivable & usable.
I used a bunch of leftovers to get it together years back so that dad could see it before he left us. He didn't get to ride but he did get to admire both his trucks before passing.

I was finely able to work on the rear bumper some and let me tell you that my fab skills have diminished from setting behind the desk drawing all the time geez . Do look to close at the welds either , I have not welded anything in about 12 years at least and maybe longer . It is sad that I have not built anything in a long while but getting back into it has made me realize how much a like it .

Was working from home today so I figured I would start getting a part of the project knocked out so I can start checking stuff off the list. I decided to make a custom license plate light and have it also shine GMC right under the bumper but this is version 2.

I think I posted this before but here is version 1.

I revised how the light is shining so it should be around the permitter of the letters and will also shine through a clear lens that will be mounted to the bumper. I might go ahead and make that but I was planning on incorporating the rear view camera into that somehow so I could see to hook up to the trailer with a Wolfbox style rear view mirror.
