:)...I wish this one would...Had a slight ticking noise the other day...sounded like a lifter. It went away after the truck would warm up, so I thought maybe the exhaust bolts had loosened up causing a slight leak...the back bolt on the passenger header was pretty loose, and had 2 collector bolts loose as well. Never did it again at all yesterday..I was thinking "Awesome, a simple fix".....Go to work this morning, and it started again....:flame: Beginning to think that I might have a sticking lifter....What was weird tho, is that I noticed I was low on gas in one tank, so I switched it over to the other tank and the ticking stopped...........Now I'm really confused....Any suggestions?

Not sure but could it possible be the sending unit in that other tank you were running from before you switched over?? That's my first thought anyway

I'm just totally confused at this point..it sounds just like a lifter, but doesn't do it everyday....I'll try to use the "screwdriver-scope" to pinpoint the noise when it does it again....:boti:...Maybe the valves need to be adjusted as well.....That's the bad part about buying something that somebody else put together...You don't know what was done, and what wasn't.......

Concluded that I have a lifter that is "sticking" every once in a while....Started the ticking again today, and then just all of a sudden stopped within a minute or so.........Gonna get a quart of Rislone this weekend, and run it for a few days then change the oil......Hopefully that will loosen up the crud, and will take care of it until I do a cam/lifter swap later on.................:)

I just battled with stuck valves on my 305 last summer. Only difference was mine completely froze shut and broke the push rods in half. Do all the springs look okay?

My g-pa always used a quart of tranny fluid in with the oil for a noisy lifter. He said there's a lot of detergents in tranny fluid and he swore it cleaned the motor out every time.

My only reference to this is a diesel forum I joined a while ago (dieselplace.com). According to what a guy was telling me... the new atf is different and has none of the old properties that were good for adding to oil or gasoline. They all recommended using sea foam.

You Granpa knows what he's talkng about. I've done the same with good results. Tranny fluid can actually work some miracles.

I have put as much as a quart of 5 quarts in a motor before, and no bad affects that I was aware of. Normally when I have done it, I have used 1/2 quart to 5 quarts.

I have used Marvels before on a ticking lifter, and after about 100 miles its seemed to have done the truck. Now I foget what someone told was the recipe for Marvels, but I swore, I'd never put in my engine again after I learned what it was. BUT, it did work for me once before I knew what it was.
