I would run the hoses directly through the firewall to the evaporator, if you use a block or connections on either side of the firewall it will leave 4 unnecessary places to leak

There is a heater control valve that goes inline of one of them, but the more I look at this mess the more I am thinking the same thing.

There is a place locally that makes custom pressure hoses (including AC) for anything. I'm taking some of these VA fittings there tomorrow AM and see if we can improve on them.

Custom hoses are a good way to go. However A/C lines are rated at 500psi, and no shop i know can test them more than say 125psi. Make sure if there is a problem that they will cover a re-do

They made a place my buddy worked at some lines rated to 2500psi. Every time I'm there someone from ODOT or a couple local stamping plants are there.

I used to restore 4N cars and there was a high pressure line that had been out of production since 1993. I found one (that was bad) and they duplicated it for me probably 8-10x. Never an issue.

It's not that critical, the rubber grommets allow some movement in the lines.
I did fab a small bracket to hold the heater line valve to the fender well, I didn't like it hanging on the hose.

Trying to find the space between the hoses and that bell housing edge. I have never had any use for the cheap overflow tanks the SBs had - never cared for how they mount either. I have bought 2 and both leaked. Read a posting once where a guy bought 4 to get 1. I like the 95-98 styles - mount is better too. Want to see if it will fit there or do I have to move (or hide ) those HVAC lines.

Here is a ballpark mock up of about where it originally went - I think I can move it some. Just needs to clear the hoses and dont want it too close to the motor.

Ah... Gotcha, that was a screenshot of the vintage air instruction manual.
