so my truck stalled everyone once in a while, after it idled for some time. i talked to a mechanic that had a similar year and he said that the cause could be the HEI (electornic ignition) distributor module, that it happened to him somtimes too. so i went to kragen yesterday and got myslef a new one, (i checked it would fit my truck, same year for the same engine and everything) and i installed it last night. i then drove it and everyhting worked fine. today i drove it to school no problem, but when i come home, and i'm about to park on my street (its on a hill) then engien dies, and throws out a lot (seriously a ton) of white smoke. Now i can't restart the engine. I personally don't think its related at all to the new distributor module since it ran fine all day. any ideas?

Start pulling spark plugs, I'm sure at least one will be wet with coolant. Sounds like blown head gasket/cracked head to me.

I bet its a head gasket too. Start by pulling all the spark plugs and do a compression test on all 8 cylinders.

Hmmm. That doesn't really explain the white smoke though. Glad it wasn't a head gasket and an easy fix.

Yeah, I don't get the fuel pump causing white smoke. Hopefully someone here can share the connection on that one. Glad you got it back running tho

I had an old car that would do puffs of white smoke once in a while and found it was a bad modulator valve on the transmission....would blend trans fluid in the exhaust and it looked like a James Bond smoke screen.
