I use either Valvoline Max Life or Tractor supply hydraulic fluid in everything.

I change the fluid and adjust the bands on my Ram every 25k or so. I do tow frequently. Some people say that’s overkill. The fact that I’m almost to 300k on a transmission that’s never been out of the truck, and is supposedly a problematic transmission says otherwise.

I would say your due for a service.

Dex/Merc would be fine, get an OE filter and a Felpro gasket. If the pan looks distorted in any way get a new one, they are inexpensive. You might also consider installing a drain plug on the pan. My 2 cents!

I would definitely install a drain plug or buy a pan with a plug. Drain and fill your transmission 4 times in the next month, just drain the pan and pour in fresh fluid. That will swap out most of the fluid. Then do a spill and fill every 6 months and your transmission will be happy.

I haven't done mine yet so can't vouch for it but looks easy. Remove filter seal easily.

Do a pan drop, filter change, and install a pan with a drain plug. Then do a drain and fill at the next two oil changes or even each week for 2 weeks would be fine. From there on out, do a drain and fill at an oil change every 6 months or so. Might drop the pan and replace the filter every 2-3yrs. This all assumes a daily driver getting 12k+ miles per year.

BTW the reddish brown rubber gasket you can see in the picture is steel reinforced.
The gasket got stuck inside my transmission body and was a nightmare to remove. Considering having the service done next time

The filter gasket does like to stay in the transmission. I have had good luck using a very small flathead screwdriver or a pick to slip in between the gasket and the transmission and deforming the gasket to the inside. Then it drops out easily.

I drain the pan and top back off in the spring and use Mobil Delvac tractor hydraulic fluid. Also mix a splash of type F in so I can see it on the stick since the Delvac is clear.

Note I'm not running the typical TH350/400 or 700r4 I'm running a race built power glide

Hey its complete New Filter, 4.5 qts of ATF DEX/MERC
fell pro gasket, one bolt was mangled so replaced that one, and one hole is stripped!!! Its not leaking yet. Will have to fix that hole it does not go through so a nut and bolt is not a option
I will do a helicoil repair
Thanks for the replies
