700R4 fluid level

I recently checked the fluid level, engine running in park and fluid hot. Will anything be harmed if I leave the level about 3/16" above the full mark? Also, I sealed the hole in the center of the cap on the back of the slip yoke to prevent leaking from time to time. Will this damage anything or affect performance? I haven't noticed any change in operation after around 500 miles of normal driving and it shifts smooth and solid. Thanks.

My 700 starts making a gurgling type noise, guessing the pump, when it's got too much fluid. Hasn't seemed to hurt anything, but I am much more particular when filling.
