Installing a 2 1/4" LMC dual kit on my 1982 3/4 Ton with stock 350cid M VIN manifolds.

The kit comes with flared drop pipes.

I did not find springs when I disassembled it.

On the passenger side the manifold has a flat base, but the EFE vacuum flapper has the sphererical "donut" cast right into it. (I'm looking for a gasket for that joint, but think I will have to create one. )

I haven't torn down the driver's side pipes yet.

Do I need to get the studs with springs?

Iirc, all of those heat riser valves that had a flange cast right into it did not use a gasket at the downpipe connection.

You don't need the springs generally, just the tall, brass nuts.

Just a quick spray of copper coat then.

Thanks

Any who knows what this is? There was a pipe hanger on it. But why only on one side?

Looks like it is bent upward.

Notice I didn’t get a spare or hanger with the truck.

Exhaust hanger. It's bent.

If you only have one on the driver side, it was likely a single exhaust truck.

These were work trucks, so dual exhaust was not a common option.

On my ‘75 K25 the brace on the stock transfer case crossmember also makes it hard to find room for the 2nd pipe. There is a w-shaped crossmember that was used on some trucks, and it provided more space for routing dual exhaust.

It's funny you mention that. Most of my pre-'87 squarebody trucks, Suburbans and K5's have been original dual exhaust trucks. Exceptions were '79 2wd K5 with I6, '84 C10 with 305 and I'm not sure about the camo '77... I believe Curt said it wasn't the original frame.

I think there was a healthy mix of single/dual trucks back then. Maybe old fed emissions vs Cali emissions and the other blue states like IL that I grew up up in?
@44hunter45, I be never installed one of those pre made old car/truck exhaust kits but I wouldn’t expect it to be completely plug n play, but more, a set of pipes that doesn’t require a tubing bender to install.

It actually hangs up pretty good. I would like it to have an H tube, but I can cut that in later.
Contractor is promising my shop will done by Christmas. I will be putting a 4 post life in it.
Looking a pictures I've seen here in the forums, up over the drive line right at the front of the bed box looks like a good fit for the 4x4.
Jeg's sells H kits in 2",2 1/4", and 2 1/2" It comes with the T's and a straight tube, as well a pre-bent tube. I don't think the cross tubes will fit my application, but <$90 is worth it for the T's

I made up my mind today I'm going to drill out the rivets on the factory hanger and pull it. Scrounger that I am, I will hang on to it.
This rig will likely get a frame-off some day. I will probably have a completely different idea of what I want for sound and routing by then.
I like the sound of the Dynamax Turbos, but they say the H tube really tames the drone.

I think if you remove the flapper you can use a sleeved style donut like a walker 31520 (NAPA EXH-31520) to match the drop to the manifold. I installed what I think is the same LMC kit on my truck last year and that's what I ended up doing. I did end up with springs on my studs but I'm not sure how necessary they are.

How does that sound? I'm starting to worry about some reports of Turbos being too loud.

Keeping the heat riser flapper. Decided I will use the springs. I'm ordering the stud kit today.

I think I may end up having to pull the right manifold to swap out the studs. Not a lot of Vise Grip room in there.

Got the kit loose hung. Used the brass nuts with lock washers but not the springs.

I'm going to cut the first tubes after the mufflers and move the mufflers back about a foot. Dr Google completely contradicts himself on the effects of moving your mufflers back. I'm not sure if it will sound mellower or louder in the cab.

I'm thinking I want the extra drive line clearance I will get also.

One source says way sweeter. Another says the drone is worse. My gut says the former. But what do I know?
