Yeah, nah. This is staying as a 2wd as I don't need a second 4wd. Plus its too much hassle with the rego authorities to convert it here - engineering certificates, approvals etc.... required
I completely understand... Australia is worse than Canada in those (and many other) regards.
Please forgive me, it just my habit to see nice trucks as 4x... All those high end 2x trucks we see, lowered, $8000 paint... I just want to take them all home, give them a bath and convert to 4x4s.

I didn’t know they were available again. I looked a long time for an older set. Talked a buddy out of them that had em sitting in the corner of his shed for years.

I almost bought those for my truck, but I didn't think they fit the era of my '85. I'd install them any day on a 73-80 though!

I want to get them for my '78 Burb. Super Swamper also now sells a Cobalt MT, which looks very similar to old Groundhawgs. I just don't know if they are a terrible tire or not... there might only be one way to find out.

I would venture yours are superior in strength and accuracy.

Just have to wonder on the quality or lack of with these...?

It's US Mags, they are at the higher end of the mass produced aftermarket wheels.

Also, I've got a set of original slotted mags from back in the day, the castings are honestly very poor.

These aren’t chinese metal, that’s for sure. The guy that machine polished them for me said he got them so hot he couldn’t touch them without using leather gloves. I’d search for an old set any day before buying new ones.

The advantage to the new ones is that you can run common 17 inch tires. Although you are limited in tire sizes.

The 16.5's still have a variety of sizes available, if you are willing to run something like a Swamper.

Or a BFG All Terrain, still my favorite do-all tires.

You are correct. These 16.5’s will last me until I’m done with it. Then it will be my son’s problem if they go completely obsolete. I want this somewhat period correct.
