Replace accelerator pump during carb rebuild?

I'm ordering a rebuild kit and new floats for my edelbrock carb on my K25. Would it be wise to go ahead and replace the accelerator pump now since I'll have it out and apart? Most of my carb experience is on small engines and four wheelers.

I say without a doubt, hell yes. IMO, it's a Does a Bear **** in the woods question. I've never seen a kit not come with it and you're going to be there anyway so yep, go for it. Unless maybe you just did a rebuild not long ago and want to save a spare knowing that there is not a thing wrong with the current one.

Some will say, put the new on it, and save the old one for a spare. NO, don't do that. Once it's been used and in gas for awhile, then you let it sit, it'll dry out and not be any good shortly. I guess you could always coat it in vaseline and put in a cig pack sulofane to keep it lubed and wet. Acc pumps go out in 2 ways. #1, they just quit pumping, or worse, #2, they leak out the top of the carb and pump more gas out the top of the carb than into the carb, but you usually get a little bit of a warning unless you didn't pay attention to gas grime going down the side of the carb near the acc pump and then all of a sudden it leaking like crazy.

I don't think the kit I'm ordering comes with one, but I'm going to go ahead and order one and slap it in there.

Every kit I have ever got came with a new rubber seal thingy.

Yep. That's all you should need to do is replace the rubber on the end of the pump stem.

Every Edelbrock rebuild kit I've bought has came with a new accelerator pump as well.

My mistake. It does have the rubber seal, just not the whole thing.
