Would it be possible to take my 2wd 73 dually and convert it to a 4wd? Would I have to find a front axle from a 4wd truck and convert it? How easy/hard is it to convert it if it can be done? Or do I really need to convert it and just lift the 2wd?

For example:

Yes it can be done, discussed many times here recently. It will be easier if you have the donor truck on standby so you can get all your measurements. You'll need the front spring hangers, shackle mounts, engine cradle, and t-case crossmember. As well as the obvious, front axle/springs, front/rear driveshafts, t-case and trans, etc.

This is a case where converting the 2wd frame will be easier than swapping with a donor frame. Locating a 4x4 crew cab frame can be challenging, and if you do find one, that's a lot of body and bed to swap over. '73 should have a bolt-in tranny hump too.
