I'm looking for miscellaneous parts for old straight sixes. Anyone know of a source, besides eBay, of old six cylinder stuff? I'm talking like late 40s and early 50s, specifically for the Chevy 235 and 261 engines.

What are you looking for. I have a complete engine in a 1948 Chevy truck. Was running when I parked it, should still run. I'm in the Black Hills.

@SDJunkMan I’m actually looking for a friend who’s into to the old six cylinder stuff. He’s looking for anything and everything to have for parts and whatnot. Is that engine in your ‘48 a 261?

The pic on my first post he rebuilt and restored himself. He's also restoring the truck its in, which is a '51 one-and-a-half ton Chevy. He's really focused on restoring older trucks and the old cylinder engines.

I'm not sure which engine, it's in a 48 or 49 1 1/2 ton truck. I used to drive it to make dump runs, then someone broke out most of tne windows, and its been sitting ever since. I'll try to check it out this week, it's in a storage yard and I have to get over there and move a 78 cab that I want to start restoring.

I talked to my buddy and he says he’d like to buy the whole truck from you if you’re willing to sell it. Let me know what the engine is and send some pics if you could, please. He said the engine is probably a 235 unless it’s been swapped out.

I've got a 48 gmc 228, and 4 speed on the floor for sale. Also have the torque tube style rear end, and some misc drivetrain parts, like clutch and brake pedal assembly etc. The engine has every accessory it came with, but is locked up.

The truck or anything other than drivetrain isn't for sale though. It's also a gmc not a Chevy, so. Im in sw ND

I'm not sure if the 228 is compatible with the 235 or 261. I'll pass it along to my buddy and see if that's something he'd be interested in.

Thanks for the shout out. I can think of the stovebolt forum, inlinersinternational.org forum, or maybe the 67-72 forum. With LS, SB or BB conversions being the norm for a lot of these factory L6 trucks, these old inline sixes are seeing the crusher, or being set aside to rot

Not compatible. gmc engines had machined bearings and full pressure oil systems, unlike Chevy of the era, they had Babbitt bearings still.

216 were babbitt low pressure dipper system, easily identifiable by the full length (seals around the spark plugs) side cover, where as the 235 had a "half size" cover, spark plugs exposed. 235, 261, full pressure like the 228, 248 272?, 301 GMC. Had most of these in my lifetime, still have many motors.
