No sticker in glove box.. how to get brake code

Sorry if this has been covered, but I’ve tried searching. I don’t have a service parts sticker in glove box of 82 c10 two wheel drive. Master cylinder is leaking and I want to get the right one to replace it. I don’t know my brake code. The Master cylinder that was on there has this number on bottom (18006061). Any help is appreciated.

If you pull the one of the rear drums off, measure the width of the brake shoes. JB3 is 2" wide and JB5 is 2.75" wide. I would assume you have power brakes so you can also determine it by the shape of the booster.

Keith, it does have power brakes. I looked up vin codes the other day and I think it was 5100-6000 if that makes sense. The MC that I took off number was definitely 18006061 BUT that may not be correct one. My booster looks like the jb3 picture. I will check rear brake shoes also. Thanks for all the help. I know very little about this stuff but I want to learn. My 17 year old son has wanted a square body since he was 10. He paid for this truck himself and we are trying to fix all we can together and then get help with the rest.

Agree - 5100-6000 is JB3, which it sounds like the hardware would support.

In hindsight I wouldn't worry about the part number - that might be a casting number which is machined into several different up assembly numbers.

Also - be advised that if you have the JB3 system you will also have the "small" 1 inch front rotors, rather than the larger 1.25 inch rotors. You'll want to know this if you ever do anything with the front wheel bearings, or have to replace a rotor.

THe GM heritage center may be able to give you a copy of the build sheet.
CompNine.com is another possible source of build options based on his VIN. Their public web page will run the VIN and tell you if it's in their database for free. If they have it... they charged me $5 for the options list on my 2005, 2001, & 2000 trucks and my 2005 & 2009 Impalas. You have to dig for the five VIN "no subscription" option but it's there.

I think the Heritage Center and the CompNine site would should the merchandised options J50 or J55 (for power brakes) rather than the non merchandised JB3, JB5, JB6 etc.
