i am buying a 1987 chevy c20 custom deluxe, 2wd, 5.7l 350 origonal motor, only has 55000 miles!!!!! Definitely looking to restore, however its not really in bad shape. mechanically everything is sound and smooth. the body needs some work. I really want to have a shop take care of all the rust and there is a dent in the rear by the tailgate that also needs taken care of.....kinda worried bout how much it will cost.....any suggestions or ideas is very welcomed. The owner had a book where he wrote down anything thats been done to the truck and where he went and how much it costed him. im paying him $2000 for the truck. i believe im getting a good deal? it does also need a new windshield and im sure that will b a couple hundred bucks.....i eventually want to get the truck painted. im not sure if the paint on it is origonal or not, i would think so. if i paintyed it a differenct color am i going to be loosing value for not keeping it origonal???? not that i want to go sell it right away or ne thing but eventually when that time does come i want to make sure i made the right choices before hand. And im not sure if it is a c20 or a R20?????? some help there would definatly be appreciated. please please please feel free to give and suggestions. Thank you

Howdy! Truck looks like a pretty good deal considering your location and the mileage. Rust repair cost will depend largely on the shop you take it to. In '87 the C/K model designation changed to R/V because of the new bodystyle being introduced (I think GM originally planed the intro at the start of the '87 model year), but I still always call them C/K.

Not a bad looking truck and a seemingly fair price. If all you really need to do is body work...I'd just drive it for now and read up on some body and do most of the prep yourself. It's not terribly difficult, just time consuming, which is why it usually cost so much to have a shop do it right. Have some faith and confidence in yourself, go ahead and pull the trigger on it, and enjoy the process. As for windshield, I'm in Alaska where things cost an arm and your first born and I'm paying $204 the day after tomorrow for a new one, installed, from a reputable shop. They're not bad man, I wouldn't expect it to be much off from that. Good luck man and can't wait to see what you do with it.
