Good Morning Everyone. I'm doing a fluid and filter flush on my 84 TH400, and when I pulled the filter off, this spacer came out. Does it go on the bolt for the filter as I have it? I haven't had any issues with shifting etc so I'm thinking it helps keep the filter level in the pan. The bolt is tight but the filter can still move a little. Any insight is appreciated

You appear to have an extra washer or something on top should be like this with the filter between the bolt head and sleeve the step toward valve body and yes, they fit loose but should sit fairly level.

I'm guessing this is in a 4x4. The extra washer is an old mechanic trick t keep the filter covered on steep angles or for extra deep pans such as motorhomes. Oversized washers were common at the bolt head to help filter from getting bounced off.

And before you ask, the filter is designed to flop around.

Everyone questions that the first time taking the pan off a 400.

Makes sense never ran a 4x4 with an auto so never really thought about that.
