Cool project and price was just right! I’ve always thought that era of Ford was a good looking truck. I’d definitely own one for the right price. Looks like she’s a good, solid rig

Apparently the magic goo has left the ignition module, but there is this delicious can of beans as a bonus.

Ford used those bean cans all the way into the 90's.

I'm definitely not a F*rd guy, but I could see this project in your future. This one's on a late model Powerstroke frame.

This morning was interesting. When attempting to start the truck the starter was barely turning, probably due to the low battery. However, on the last attempt, even after returning the key to the off position, the starter kept trying to turn. There’s just too many unknowns and just enough modifications for me to want to sort through all the craziness. I’m just going to pull the wires and vacuum lines and start from scratch. I’ll probably keep the Ford Duraspark ignition stuff and motorcraft carb, but I’m not sure what else.

First thing I'd do is replace that starter regulator that mounted on passenger inner fender. And once you get old one removed, sand all the rust off to get a good ground. Causes all kind of wiring issues.

Are you referring to the starter solenoid? If so, I put one on my shopping list. Thanks!

Any idea what this heat sink looking deal is mounted on top of a Yuban coffee can?

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Had a 66 Ford back when I was a kid. Found out about that regulator quite by accident. Future BIL and I were working on the truck as it had a no start issue. I was messing with the starter switch and he with the regulator/solenoid and it fired. Scared the heck out of us. No, don't have any idea what that's for. Trace the wires, seem to be a heavy gauge for something that draws a lot of amps. And for what it's worth, those solenoids can keep the starter engaged even with the engine running thereby chewing all the teethe off the Bendix and ruining the flywheel/flex plate as well.

Looks like a battery isolator. Power goes in one, starter power comes from one, and accessories can pull from the other. The isolator will cut power to the accessories before they drain the battery below a certain point to make sure you have enough left to start.

Battery isolator. Used to charge 2 batteries but only use one. For example it will charge your starting battery and a battery in a camper or utility trailer but will only allow power to be taken from the starting battery.

That’s what someone in a Ford forum had said. They also said that type is fire-prone I guess and to get rid of it...

If I run dual batteries I’ll probably just isolate with a relay.
