You're right. Turbo's are the thing to have for a well rounded fun vehice. Keep all your economy and when you want it, you've got the horsepower. This is one of the things Ford is trying with the EcoBoost. I like the idea, but I don't care for the idea in gasoline powered trucks. Sure you get the horsepower up, but you don't get the torque increase you need to go with it out of a V6. I just don't see that Ford EcoBoost V6 in a truck be a good combo for towing heavy loads. Diesel has the torque built in already, and any horsepower you can add to the torque that's already there, you will see gains.

They say it will tow 11000 lbs. I looked at it when I decided to go used. That's more then any half ton I could find. It's pretty freaking good if it's true. I know a guy that has one and tows an 8000 lb boat. It does it pretty easily. My 03 cummins is suppose to be good for 18000 lb, but it's a 3/4 ton.
This mind sound crazy, but I've looked into a v6 in an older vehicle like a chevy II nova. Using a turbo and hooking it up to a built 700r4. I guess there are years of the s-10 that will fit or using a 200r4. I've research a little about a pontiac 3.8 with this setup. I like the idea of 25 mpg with potential for near 300hp. I don't wanna derail this dude's thread though I get off track sometimes.

You can get a ton of torque with a turbo if you size it a little small. It will make gas engine feel like a diesel. Even the turbo 2.0L Honda's are making in the 450 ft-lb range with boost. The disadvantage to sizing it small, is you run out of top end power pretty quick because you max out the turbo.

Do compounds work pretty well? Not twins, but compounding a smaller one into large one.

I can't say I've really seen any compound setups that weren't factory, so I can't really say. I'm pretty sure the mid 90s Turbo Supras used a compound setup though.

ha! well 2 ac compressors would be a sweet idea, dark paint = sauna... i'm going to start a resto mod on mine within a year or two and i would like to decide on an engine so that if i see what i want come up randomly i can grab it. anyway i've been leaning towards an LS engine of larger displacement but the 5.3 just really seems more interesting. i figured i would toss around the idea and see what everyone thought about a twin turbo 5.3L in an '87...

4.8's love boost. if i were gunna go the 5.3 route i'd get 4.8 pistons, and rods, and build the 5.3 into a 5.3HO. texas-speed has released the 92 fast intake again, and it just so happens that i start my new job thursday, so as soon as my check hits the bank that fast 92 will be on it's way. I'm not taking my time this time because they didn't last to long when they were first released.

Compounds, like any turbo setup, can be great when setup correctly. Yes the mkIV supras came stock with a compound setup but if i recall it was two of the same turbos. They did better when they were "altered" to true twins or a big single. With compounds you want a smaller turbo first. The exhaust from the smaller turbo feeds the bigger turbo. The bigger turbos boost side feeds the intake side of the smaller one. When the turbos are proporly paired you have good low end boost with minimal lag but you dont run out of boost on the high end with the small turbo because the bigger turbo then spools and creates high end boost. This will prob explain it better, and it has a picture!!!!! lol

Marines 03 to 07 miss active duty but what can ya do.... Get some pics up tonight, its an all original barn find with 76k original miles. Found an old man trying to sell it cause he didn't drive it in the past 10 years and grandkids wanted nothing to do with it, their loss... So 3k later straight body no rust at all she is all mine and runs good but I want to keep it pretty much as is with modern engine and trans.

Yarp...we have both here. Mr. Clean directed me to thee UP site here, Becaus there is a Yard about an Hour away in stockton....they never post any jobs though.
As far as that Ecoboost F150, there is a logger that I saw up in the Redwoods last weekend, using it to pull some pretty heafty redwood logs up through an area too narrow for a bigger machine...It was no slouch, the only thing he complained about, was that it didnt get the mileage that Ford claims, but he said he. does not drive like a grandpa either.
I would be curiouse to see how an LS engine, or the 4200 Atlas 6 would do with an STS setup.
