I currently am using 3998993 heads with perimeter bolt pattern for valve covers. I am also using 14101074 GM intake on these heads.

The issue I am running into is that I can bolt the intake down with the outside bolts but the 4 inners simply do not line up. Its as if the holes on the intake are out to far towards the edge not allowing the bolts to go in properly.

Now some people say you can ream the holes to allow the bolts to line up but the issue with that is the center bolts won't lay flush on the intake.

I'm stumped with this and wondering if anyone could provide some insight?

Intake was apparently from a 82-92 engine.. so I wonder if that is why things are goofy for.

Could it be the year the heads are vs the intake?

** Update for future reference **

For those who may or may not know... Chev/GM used several different bolt patters for the intakes.

1986 and older is one style; This style the 4 center bolts are more angled
1986 and newer is another; This style the 4 center bolts are more vertical

Those are good heads.

Did you deck the block and surface the heads?

Do you have a pic of the intake?

This is a pic of the intake and you can see how the center bolts are more vertical than angled compared to the other ones. Its because of this verticalness that they do not line up with the heads.

So I'm on the hunt again for another intake and hopefully can sell this one to recoup some cost.

There we apparently found on camaros and such. The bolt pattern is that of a vehicle after 1986 as that is when they changed the 4 center bolts.

Aluminum and apparently a rare one too as it has the snowflake stamp on it.

Yep the 87-95 cast iron heads used that intake you need a 2101 or 86 and earlier GM manifold

Kijiji.. $120 and came with head bolts and a gasket set. They were freshly cleaned with less than 900km on them.

freak that's a sweet deal.

Its funny usually on kijji there are at least a couple intakes but there are only 2 in Edmonton for $100 and $125.

Yeah I think the '87 and later aluminum heads (Vette) still used the older bolt pattern.

And the holes can be reamed so the bolts line up, but you also have to make tapered washers.

Yeah I know about reaming the holes but finding those wedges will be a chore where I live.

I'll do some calling and see what I can get a edelbrock performer for.
