Increase idle - toggle switch

I was thinking about the option of adding a toggle swtich that would increase the idle speed to say 1000 rpms. For example, when using a winch to pull another vehicle out or pull your own rig out and you want to increase the idle speed in Park or Neutral, you can flip the switch on to increase the speed to a preset rpm.

I came across this on a jeep forum when I was looking for some ideas on wiring an in cab winch switch and wondered if anyone has done this or how easy something like this would be to do on a carburetion set up.

I think your best bet would be a threaded rod under the dash that would contact the throttle pedal where the cable attaches. The more you threaded the rod out towards you it would contact the back side of the pedal and pull the throttle open

If charging is of concern a smaller pulley for your alternator would help out.

My concern is that would mean the alternator is always turning faster and potentially shorten the life of it. Yes? No?

Not much more then you would notice. Unless you have an old alternator. Then either way it's just a matter of time. Guess it kinda depends on how often you need to boost the charge that will justify upgrading to a new alternator pulley

Some carbs had idle increase solenoids.

I think they were for carbed models with AC.

Yep and they can be had with an electric solenoid. All you would have to do is hook up a switch and adjust it out to your desired RPM unless you already have AC. Then maybe it would just be as simple as wiring in a switch.
