I'm going to check out a new door shell tomorrow. It's advertised as new oem. Are there any stamping marks to verify this? I work in a GM stamping plant currently, and I know we put the GM logo on all the inner metal. Did they do this when these trucks were built? If so, about where are the marks located?

Not sure about a stamping, but they did have a GM Replacement Parts sticker on them. About 1x3 inches in size, or something close to that. They are a durable sticker even when exposed to some weather, so if it's OEM, it should still be there. If not, be suspicious and check for ripples and waves that even GM wouldn't have let slip out the factory door. The factory parts did have ripples and waves, but the aftermarket stuff is even worse.

Thanks. I'll keep it in mind when I check it. I almost wish I had a micrometer to check the gauge of the steel. Guess I'll have to go by how heavy it feels.

all aftermarket parts I have seen are real flimsy. push in the center of the door to see if it is flimsy.

Check for the correct placement and design of the breather vents (also I think that OEM doors come with the rubber check flaps installed). These flaps are strips of rubber that are held in place behind the vent located on the lower, inward facing side:

I know the fenders on my 78 have the gm stamp on them, not sure about the doors though.
