Hood hinges help,maybe not the same old stuff

Harwood sells a lighter set of springs meant for fiberglass hoods might be what you're looking for not cheap for a set of springs tho.

That's exactly what I was hoping for and I think would help other members. Thank you. I always just ran no springs,pins and a prop rod on fiberglass. Live and learn.

I was trying to remember the name of the fiberglass hood I'd bought for a truck many years ago... yes Harwood!
Those springs were extra but they worked perfectly.

Lol, yeah that price is why I never bought the Harwood springs. Iirc, my hardware store springs were a grand total of around $16.

Just occurred to me,I'd bet there are many different tensions on factory hood springs,my thinking is a Nova or such might be a significant downgrade upgrade,enough that opening the hood isn't such a pain as no spring,but soft enough that hood won't buckle further. Still use a prop rod to hold it up. IDK I'll start looking at boneyard springs.

The hinges that I linked above, have the option of spring rates. Steel, fiberglass, carbon fiber.

Or avoid round eye trucks and get a slant nose truck that doesnt have bent hood issues.

What you can do is weld steel brackets, with only the flat part, over the weak spots. Keep in mind, though, that in an accident, the hood might then try to come through the windshield like a draw knife.

They have a "smooth" style that I like better. Not bad price wise but still on the expensive side imo

Cheaper to just run a brace kit and lube the snot out of the hinges.

They are cheaper by about 40% or more for that style hinge but I'd rather just run the stock ones or a reman stock style hinge if the originals are toast as they are like $100 for a pair.

I ended up buying em and also LSfab hood braces. I gotta clamp my hood back straight also went thru LMC truck and bought all new hood latch assembly and hardware cause my latch let go and my hood buckled just enough to tear it. The patina matches the truck to well to replace the hood so I’ll fix and brace it

Thanks I appreciate it. You are correct cheaper than milled billet but still on the pricey side.

Just turn the originals around and put them back on. They'll have half the tension.
