Ok fellers I am hoping someone here can help me get this back glas switched around. I have a cr lawence dark tint that was in my 79 before it got crushed. I would like to install it in my 85. I had planned on taking it to the glass shop and just leting them do it but they seem to want to charge as much to use MY glass as they do if I was to have them order one. can someone help me out maybe with some pictures?

I'm buddies with a glass guy, I just butter him up with spare parts or give him 10 bucks to buy some beer.

Sorry, I'm no help.

One of the new members was talking about pulling a 1/4" rope along the seal to help work it over the glass. Or was it to work the seal over the frame, as if the seal was already on the glass? Who was that guy and where the hell is he??

Lol, he doesn't do the internet. He much prefers his own little world... which is too bad because you guys would all love him. He's a hoot.

Yup you wanna use some soft nylon rope you now the white stuff its a little more workable than the yellow stuff about 1/4" in diameter.... you deffinately need two people, one two press the window firmly against the back of the cab with some downward pressure and the other working the seal from the inside. with the rope all the way around the seal with about 16" exeses on each end, crossing over on the bottom of the window in the middle . you start on the bottom in the middle when you pull the rope through it pulls the seal with it kinda like closing a zip lock bag in reverse , a little dish soap in a spray bottle can make it a little smoother

I have no pics but:
Carefuly use a screwdriver to gently pry up on the seal from the inside. Work the seal up and over the lip of the cab. (really need 2 folks) Once you get it started it really isn't hard to remove the seal and glass as a unit.
After the old glass is removed I like to clean the seal and the metal with some cleaner. Place the seal around the frame of the "new" window. Get a length of rope (about the same dia. as a shoe string) that is long enough to wrap all the way around the inside of the seal where it fits over the lip on the cab opening. Have the helper then hold the window up to the opening. Starting in a corner pull the string to work the seal over the lip of opening and just work your way all the way around. It looks hard to do but it really is not that bad.

rope and alot of dishsoap is the best bet. A buddy helped put one of mine in awhile back and used a screwdriver. Ended up chewing up my rubber molding tho. If your uding the factory solid glass remember the 80 and older is slightly thicker than the 81 and newer, and you will have to use the molding from the right vintage of truck.

Even Dave can install back glass it's so easy. Looks like it's ready been said. Rope it in. Nothing fancy as far as rope. I've even used heavy twine before. And yes, starting in the middle or a 1/3 way from one of the long corners is best. A 2nd person if you're not experienced is a plus too. Just to hold pressure on the start side as you start pulling the rope out of the rubber seal. Once you get half way or so, it's not going anywhere and your help can split.
