You're doing the exact opposite of what I want to do. Too bad you're on the opposite side of KY, otherwise we could just switch complete rears.

Also be advised you will need a 3-series carrier for the gears to work.

Yup, the carrier break is 4:56 on down, and 4.11 up as in taller gears. So you can only go a deeper lower gear with that carrier. If this is manual trans truck, and since it's 2wd, I'd say the money is better spent upgrading to an NV4500 trans with OD. That would be like upgrading to 3.54s and you'd get much better mpg and still have the low 4.56's to get you going in the city. Do keep in mind, if you're only doing city driving, going to 3.73's will hurt your mpg not help it. With 4.56's it's little strain to take off from a light and better mpg.

Well that is fine and dandy but i heard there is a lot of modifying involved like shorting the drive shaft and moving the transmission cross member and a person at a trans shop said i need to get a different bellhousing for the NV4500 to work as it will not bolt to the sm465 bellhousing.

OLP in MO is wanting 4.56's in a 1 ton too. Not sure what he has though. I think he has 4.10's, so not much help for you. I have a 1 ton 3.73 axle full floater too. Go fiigure, I have 2 1 ton rear 14b FF axles and all 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks.

plain english please curt

You need a 3.23, 3.73, or 4.10 carrier if you want to run stock parts. So you will have to change gears and the carrier.

hahaha, yeah, 3.54, 3.42, 3.55 all the same, Like 4.10/4.11 4.56/4.57 and most have never even heard of 4.57's but they exist. Just depends on the rear end model.
