Next issue. I have a slight interference that I traced down to a few of the Connecting Rods contacting the Cam Lobes in certain crank positions. I need to have the tops of the Rod Cap Screw Bosses chamfered to eliminate the contact. The area that I marked in Red in the picture below is where the chamfer needs to be. Anyone know of a good engine machine shop in the Southern Indiana area? Anywhere from Indianapolis to Louisville, KY would be OK

Get a postal scale weight one piston and rod assembly, grind it to clear and check it again might not be enough weight to worry about, especially since you plan to run low rpm 90% of the time the race balance is for running 6-7000+ most of the time.

Youd be surprised how a stock setup balances within 1/4oz even the off the shelf kits are better and most race balanced stuff is within a 1/2-1/4 gram. So even if you clearance those it will probably still leave you in a better state than a stock balance.

There's been some confusion here. When I got the engine it was configured for a high RPM race engine. I am re-configuring it to a low RPM torque motor. I bought different Heads with larger Combustion Chamber to drop the compression to ≈10.25:1, Bought a different Cam for low-end torque and am going to use a dual-plane intake instead of the single-plane that was on it.

Most Automotive shops when they balance an engine it’s between one and 2 g unless you specify different if they got a CWT balancer, they can balance it down to 2/10 g which is what I balance my big block at. It did cost extra.

Just to add to that the piston end is the more critical area when it comes to weight the piston, pin, and small rod end weighting the same is the more critical aspect as it changes direction and speed more dramatically than the crank end.

So don't panic. The pictures are of the GM 350 crate engine that I pulled-out of Blaze. I was hoping to sell this short block, but after closer inspection, it wasn't just the Head that was damaged. My questions are: Can this block be saved? Is it worth saving? Or is this now a boat anchor?

Holy Toledo, Batman! In my non-professional opinion, that block is done for.

It can be easily saved, but the real question is whether the expense is worth it. I don't think there are any 350 blocks that are rare or desirable enough to justify the expense of fixing it unfortunately. The right way to fix it would be to sleave both cylinders if the damage is too deep to clean up with a decking. It looks like it might be a virgin deck surface, when I got the stock 010 block for my truck it was untouched. With standard rebuilder pistons, I had to take 0.020" off the deck just to get a decent deck height and quench area. If it cleans up in .020 or .025, then it would be just fine.
