Well, vacation is over and I've done all the PM work on my other vehicles, so I started in on the engine swap/build last evening. Next steps are to remove the winch, bumper and then the dog house. That should give me easier access to everything else.

Making progress. Lesson learned, remove front wheels before removing dog-house. It would have been a lot easier. Clearing the tires with the lower rear fenders was difficult. The wheels won't be on it when the dog-house is reinstalled.

Excellent way to pull the front end, that's how I did it, access is so good, and you can get in there to clean up and paint if you wish.

I had to put mine on jack stands under the fire wall area before pulling the front clip, my hoist has some big ole childbearing hips and couldn't squeeze between the lower A arms and tires. Made the clip lift out with no obstructions.

A bit of a plot twist... The old 350 did not jump timing. I need to figure out why it was running so bad. Might need to use different Heads. We'll see when I get them off. Hopefully I'll have time tonight.

Cam lobes/lifters,. Low compression/ ring seal, valve seal. Just thinking out loud.

I think it's impossible for a Chevy small block to "jump time". They are either in time, or there's catastrophic chain/sprocket failure that prevents them from running at all.

If someone has proof of one just simply skipping a tooth, I honestly would like to hear of it.

I've seen them loose as can be but still run they ran like dirt, or break and shut down it dosnt take being far off before it refuses to run. I can't say I've seen them jump and be a bunch of teeth off.

Basically they run till they don't.

Only time I've seen them not lined up was assembly error.

Pulled the Intake and Heads off last evening. The only thing questionable that I found was cylinder #3 & #5 Exhaust valves were darker than the other ones. Everything else looked normal to me.

I won't get another chance to work on it until next Tuesday. I have to go and spend an extended Holiday weekend at our lake cottage. Floating in the lake, hanging with the wife and my brother and his wife, walking the dog, drinking beer and such instead of enjoying working on the Blazer. The engines will sleep until I get back.

Set them chamber up as flat as you can and fill all the chambers with some light weight oil and see if any drain down fast it'll give you an idea how they were sealing. Be prepared it might get messy.

The good news is that I found why the old 350 was running bad. Conjoined #3 & #5 Combustion Chambers. The bad news is that I need a different set of Heads. Any suggestions?

And that's the crate 350 head? If you still don't want to try running the double humps and you don't have the budget for aftermarket heads, pretty much any large chamber smogger head will be a comparable replacement. They are a trash head to most people and will be practically free.
