I have a 1989 R3500. 4 spd, 2wd. I am wanting to do a 4x4 conversion, will I need to put in a high hump tunnel? Honestly not exactly sure if it is low or high now, it has pto and a dump bed, controls are on the hump so maybe it’s already high jump. I’m not a big fan of body lifts either.

Nope. All manual trans and 4wd have high "jump" tunnels. Body lifts suck balls. Carry on

Earlier squares actually have a bolt-on transmission hump, later ones like yours are just part of the floor stamping. You can cut yours out and and either fabricate another hump or install one from a factory high hump truck.

Also, if you intend to use that same frame for the 4x4 conversion, you should raise the front frame rails up a few inches to make room for the 4x4 specific suspension and steering components. It is much easier to have a factory 4x4 frame from the get-go, but if you have decent fabrication skills, anything is possible. It might be possible to put a front differential and leaf spring on a lower front rail 2wd frame, but the end result would likely have a wacky stance.

You should have the high hump already. Here's a couple pictures for reference. Basically if you've got a big ole square thing in the center of your floor pan, you have the high hump already

Sell that nice dump truck to a landscaper or somebody that can use it, and get you a 4 x 4, and fix it up how you want it, instead of destroying that one.

When i went to a manual trans in my 85 had to go from low hump to high hump. I picked up a highhump bolt in from a 73to 80 squarebody simply cut out the floor section and bolt in a highhump like factory.
