Installing a new distributor gasket will not seat all the way down marks i made all lined up! tried several times Think the oil pump drive is the issue? Use a long screw driver or turn the engine over by hand ??

Screwdriver or tool of choice and keep trying it. Wiggle the rotor a little bit while trying.

Oil pump not line up. Either turn pump shaft with a long straight screwdriver or tap the engine over with key. When shaft lines up dist will drop.

Take the helical dist. gear into account & start 20* counter clockwise. Should end up on #1 as it drops in.

If the distributor rotor is pointing where it belongs just like fast said. I just crank the engine while gently pressing on the distributor it will drop right in.
