I will be directing him to that page for sure @Bennyt

Here is the stock muffler and tail pipe, still in excellent condition.

The new Cherry Bomb that is in its place.
For you guys in the rust belt, just look at how nice the underside of this 45 year old car looks. The only real rust we have found is in the bottom of the rear quarters.

I have a bunch of 2-1/8" and 2-1/4" pieces of pipe from previous projects, that is why this looks like it does.
All tiny pieces glued together, plus it gives @Maxwellvis more practice with the welder.

And the desired result so far....

We have a plan to achieve the dual exhaust look at the back of the car.
Just after the shackle we are going to tap off the pipe and run the same size over to the other side and poke it out just the same. When we do the tap, there will be a little scoop pushed into the main pipe to help pull some of the exhaust over there.
This way noise, stink, smoke, and vapor will exit both sides of the car like it has real dual exhaust.

All about the look at this point as the little six isn't a barn burner....

Plus the boys pulled out a set of hub caps that I pulled off a Dodge D100 truck a while ago at the junkyard. They popped one on the steel wheel and viola!
Cop car look, they just need to clean and repaint the wheels.

While one of the wheels was off the car they checked what was inside the drum brake and all looked fairly new. So that is a good feeling.

Brian was told today that the insurance company is going to send him a check for $1589 to repair his Honda, that gets me all paid back and he owns the car free and clear.
Plus he still gets to pocket the cash from the sale of the Honda.
I told him to go through all the parts of the car that will always be there like the suspension. Then perhaps some cool wheels and fat tires.
Drivetrain can come along later....

I realize that us people from the North East are used to watching our vehicles rust away before our eyes. But, I am still amazed at how solid the cars are from the west. We would kill to be able to find something like that here.

Grandsons were on the road headed to MO for college(from Idaho), saw 2 or 3 convoy type trucks with assorted Squares on them. All in Utah or Wyoming, all headed East. Somebody in the midwest or further must be transporting and reselling?? We do seem to have an abundance of these trucks out here, but hard to get anyone to turn loose of one, they are alwyas gonna "fix it up" one of these days. Where have you heard that before??

They took it to DEQ on Saturday and it passed the second time through.
The first time it was fat on hydrocarbons at idle.
So they drove down the street into a parking lot and leaned it waaay out.
Second time they were less than half of the maximum.

After that they went directly to the DMV and got the title transferred and a new set of plates for it.

Yesterday they were over working on it.
I suggested hosing the thing down with the degreaser they had in the back seat before working on it.
Then they set the timing after finding the timing mark on the balancer and remarking it.
Now the car idles at a proper rpm and then they fattened the mixture back up.

NICE! It is now in his name, and the deal worked out as planned.

They had the vacuum line off the distributor as they were going to time it.
That was when I told them to clean the engine as it was nasty.
The line is now back on the vac can.

Here they were playing with the ride height and the jack.
This cars suspension is well worn and we are not small people.
So when we pile into the car it rubs the new tailpipe on the ground as you leave my driveway.

So like I eluded to earlier, Brian will be putting a shackle lift on the rear as a quick way to get a bit of ride height out of the car while he drives it and saves for fresh suspension.
While he was up at Baxters Auto Parts, he purchased a set of slapper bars for it as well.
Yup, slapper bars.
He is leaning towards a typical '80s type of budget hot rod that you would see in a high school parking lot.

But, while it may be leaning that way, we still want to be safe.
So in my stash of junkyard parts, I pulled out this long Cadillac trunk mounted third brake light.
It was at the end of the day and we just set it on the rear deck and ****** wired it to the tail light with some phone wire for now. It is just temporary...

Here you can see the third light setting in the window.
Eventually we will get one mounted up on the top of the window for the best visibility.
