I wasn't aware that GMT400's were having the problem too. If it's a common problem, there's certainly a fix for it somewhere. If it's not common, you'll need to fab something up on own most likely.

wasn't wrecked it was a plow truck that was never washed and the crack has a crack right by the steering box, I guess I just assumed this was a problem, kinda like our trucks

I have owned a few of the gmt trucks and never have I heard of this. I would say if the frame did crack it would be due to the excessive weight on the front of truck or perhaps the plow running into something and twisting the frame?

Is the plow on a 1/2 ton truck by any chance?

no its a 3500 dump, that was a plow/salter
never washed btw

those have the boxed frames,usually pretty strong.on that truck you should be able to groove the crack with a grinder,going to the outside edges to stop the crack,then weld up the groove.use small passes and spread the heat around.then weld a diamond shape gusseting over the cracked area.unless it get in the way of mounting the steering box,then you have to live with welded area and check it periodically.
